Santo Domingo.- National police agents Friday night continued patrols in the Colonial Zone, where various night clubs, bars and bodegas have been fined or were placed on notice for lewd behavior and noise.
The measure comes after Police commander Neivis Perez’s warning Monday, when he visited businesses classified as vulnerable, and whose managers were advised to fix the problems which prompted complaints in the community.
"We came back again to talk to owners of bars, night clubs and bodegas, to reach an agreement and prevent unease for the community, which is affected by high levels of noise," Perez said.
He said anyone who meets the standards could continue doing business in the Colonial Zone normally, and that heightened patrols in the Colonial Zone will continue
He added that the owners of businesses have shown a willingness to comply on the complaints from residents on the nightly disorder and noise.

And make this a National campaign. If Up market is the key moving forward, then actions against these businesses offering lewd behavior and noise need to adjust their ways. Clean up your acts. Bring down the volume and cut the crap.

Last night there were no patrols in ZC ..I walked from A portes to C Mercedes and saw no police ...bit all the nice small places were closed and the big discos and clubs , the main offenders were open ..so far all this is a whole lot of crap ...actually I felt less secure walking last night than ever before

It is now Sunday ,,and last night after dinner I parked my car in Jose Reyes ,,had to drive from Parque Espana and then walked home....not one policeman in sight ...all the nice little bars that caused no problems have been closed and all the discos are open ..most streets were deserted and soon we will be raided by delinquents,,was some safety in numbers before .
Yes we needed the parking and drinking on footpaths stopped but not to have a ghost town

The upmarket places have been closed and the sleeze ones stay open ,,I guess they paid the price ...and meantime I saw 5 cars who had their rear vision mirrors stolen ,,There is simply NO police presence at night .
I am glad to say that 2 crooked poliemen at the Zona Colonial police station have been dismissed ..one bit of good news and it makes the homes safer

Maybe the "heightened patrols" are like the "well-equipped permanent life-guards" the country received the Blue Flag Beaches award for?
Smoke and mirrors.

Perhaps if they played real music (salsa, reggae, rock, etc) instead of noise (bachata, meringue and hip-hop) they would not get complaints from the neighbors, or attract violent, drunk morons?

no Roy ,,the problem was in about 5 places and it was not so much the music but the people and the cars ,,,,except the comado at the end I think if Santome near Malecon which is music rowdy ,,,
at 1am on saturday the park opposite San Miguel church was more noisy than 3 discos put together ,,I imagine all locals but no car problems . but by far the worst offenders are the churches who amplify their bells and singing
and now the police have thrown the picture vendors off Conde and it looks deserted , It all is just targeting the wrong places and people by the police who are simply nowhere after 10 pm

Thanks, Ricky
Of course the point should be made that if one lives in a tourist precinct, one should not expect tranquility on a Saturday night.

Roy,
It’s like the people who move near an airport and then complain about the airplane noise!

I think that is the point I am trying to make ..it is an bohemian and tourist area and the only problem before was the influx of Dominicans on saturday and sundat nights in cars and in such large numbers that XC could not cope ,,so narrow streets were blocked as cars parked on both sides and on the foot paths, and patrons drank outside ..only 2 or 3 discos presented a loud music problem .The two small bars at the corners of Mercedes and Santoa y espailat were no problem at all ,,but are closed
