Santo Domingo.- The arrival of non-resident visitors by air in the first half climbed 7.6% with 174,481 more passengers.

The country hosted 2.4 million nonresident visitors in the first half, compared with 2.2 million in the same 2011 period.

Central Bank figures for the first half point to the arrival of more than five million nonresident visitors at yearend.

The January to June report highlights sustained growth in tourist arrivals, spurred by higher spending on the country’s advertizing as a tourism destination, which has led to an increase in flights from major markets.

Total passenger arrivals in the first half grew by 7.36%, for entry into the country of 2.6 million, or 183,711 more compared with the same 2011 period.

foreign resident arrivals increased by 154,220 visitors , which reveals continued growth as the result of an  increase from North America and South America 121,361 and 35,166 additional tourists, respectively.

Uh no this is bad news for Josean he will be very very mad about the idea that more people are coming to the Lio-Narco Landia as he calls it. Great for the country.
We have been getting a large number of Tourist from Venezuela and other South American countries, and the best thing about it is these South American tourists are not your type of all those cheap all inclusive tourist from Europe, this people stay in beach front apartments and expend a lot of money in shopping, restaurants and also buying property here. So in other words Chavez is good for the DR to remaing in power.

Must add to that the new "Autopista del Coral" highway which can only make it more interesting for tourists to check more sites....

Just look at in how many high end malls they are investing their capital, starting with blue mall.

bernies,

Since you appear to be an expert on the “ENORMUS” benefits of tourism to the larger National Dominican Community, please tell us how many times do the Dollars and Euros spent in that sector circulate in the national economy, before they exit the country?

I liked and agreed with bernies comments ,,yes Chavez is good for the DR,,and as for the question from Josean ..well I estimate that for every million spent by the Venezuelan investors in malls and hotels , the amount would be multiplied at least between 6 and 15 times ,,,but maybe someone younger can do the multiplier and accelerator sums for me ..it is easier these days when you have a computer programme . It is completely the opposite to the effect that an investment in a bank would have ,,investments in projects with secondary industries and which involve much labour have a huge flow on effect

As usual I have Difficulty understanding what you wrote, since you are trying to obfuscate in your effort to throw a life line to bernie:……………but the concise question was on the benefits of the circulatory effect generated by the tourism Dollars/Euros on the general economy, not the building of USELESS malls other than for the rich and famous Money Launders!

I did not expect you to understand but never mind ,,you asked a question and I gave the answer which was much much economic benefit will be generated from investments by the Venezuelans and the return to the investor will probaly come later down the track or when he sells the investment ,,,that may be easier for you .
There is a very brief explanation of multiplier and accelerator economic effects in tutor 4 you ..you may care to have a glance ..it is very simplistic

You need a verbal GPS to find YOUR way in answering a question without getting lost in nonsensical rhetoric or tied up in your own under wear!

But we know, don't we, why you don’t want to address the SIMPLE question with an ever simpler answer!

Hey Bobby S. I hope if you plan to work in DR you follow protocol and apply for residency and not just come in haphazard and just fly in on a tourist visa and start working. I know many Dominicans have that strategy as an MO but as a citizen of a developed nation you need to set an example for us and our Haitian brothers regarding the rule of law. Best wishes on your endeavors.

Au contraire my North American friend I expect you to follow the rules and the laws of the state. My comments were indirectly aimed at my compatriots and our Haitian neighbors who don't have the moral fortitude to do what is right. Never mentioned that you are or might be racist. If you were the island of Hispaniola would not be a good destination for you.

Again good luck on your endeavors.

PS Bobby you might want to visit the beach town of Sosua in the north. It is a little slice of heaven filled with expats from Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Canada. Most speak english, so should be a good place to find a job as well as get info on establishing residency as many of them have . They also own many businesses there.
