Santo Domingo.– The Third Press & Tourism Summit 2012, sponsored by the Dominican Tourism Press Association (Adompretur), opened last night in the Colonial Zone’s Consistorial Palace with a speech by Tourism Minister Francisco Javier García.

According to García, the summit has a "transcendental" role because without the media the government had not been able to give answers to many problems affecting the sector.

Garcia acknowledged that the city of Santo Domingo deserves more attention from the government in order to increase the number of foreign visitors, but he believes this should be achieved with the inclusion of all sectors, including Adompretur.

The event, slated for Saturday and Sunday this weekend, features Adompretur's nationwide participation, journalists and key tourism players in Greater Santo Domingo. The summit is hosted by the Santo Domingo Tourism Cluster, with the support of the Tourism Ministry and other agencies in the sector.

"...city of Santo Domingo deserves more attention from the government in order to increase the number of foreign visitors..." What a joke. The capital has received more money than the rest of the island a good example is that useless and stupid metro that Pres. Fernandez has built in order to do what? Posterity? And the electricity still goes out, and the water does not arrive every day, and the delinquents are committing crimes, the garbage piles up, the roads are full of holes, lacking illumination and safety features, and the army is stopping people in the roads asking for money, and so on and so on. What a joke. They want to attract tourist but the conditions are not there, the infrastructure is deficient in the rest of the country. There's a lot more to the DR than Santo Domingo and a lot better and more beautiful.

Haiti would make money accepting DRs trash for recycling and burning. Tourism?! Highly doubt it until the warlords can be controlled or regulated. The only country where tourist visit that is under UN occupation is.......Egypt.
