Santo Domingo.- Owners of bars in the Colonial Zone on Tuesday announced the creation of the Association of Colonial Zone Bars (ABZOCOL), together with measures to cooperate with the sector’s development, describing the work they do as essential to tourism.
Among the Association’s measures figure putting up posters at the bar entrance telling customers the proper use of public space, weapons controls and against the entry of minors to those businesses.
It said the bar owners will also negotiate with the authorities for the use of public parking.
ABZOCOL spokeswoman Cindy Calle said around 26 area bars make up the Association and noted that those businesses create thousands of jobs.
She also announced the campaign "Fun with a conscience" to promote healthy and responsible entertainment for Colonial Zone customers.
Colonial Zone neighborhood associations have complained of the din caused by the bars in the sector, which led to a recent sweep by Interior and Police Ministry inspectors who shuttered several of those businesses.
