Santo Domingo.- Despite the voices of doom and gloom over Puerto Plata’s tourism future, the Dominican Government wagers on a "boom" as that province has never seen, but with a “sort of code” of conduct.

Tourism minister Francisco Javier Garcia affirms that the forecast boom will be even greater than during the area’s hotels best period, and will come hand in hand with the millions in investments he says are imminent.

The official, speaking in a tourism fair in Paris, said the thrust will be the result of the joint promotion by the government and the private sector, starting with the around 400,000 cruise passengers which he affirms will be visiting Puerto Plata within two years, to Carnival Cruises terminal, whose construction starts in around 20 days.

"Now, while these cruisers arrive we will work on an awareness and education campaign and an agreement on a sort of code by all sectors so that when they get all those tourists and cruise passengers, not have a repeat of the problems again which occurred 25 years ago and resulted in Puerto Plata’s losing the cruise ship visits, which hadn’t  returned until now.”

Yes, thus Punta Cana will still lead the sector. Example, Sheraton's Four Seasons is ready for the October inauguration.

And, HOTEL @ plaza coral punta cana will be inaugurated in November 2012!

Almost forgot, the Autovia del Coral, for those who are complaining abou it, F you know what! Some say that it was over priced, hahahahha, after speeding four times on it, I can say that it's better than i80 (Northern NJ/PA) and it's one of safest road at night!

I value it at over 1.5 billions, not just the 400 millions that were invested!

Must see to believe, come visit and test it yourself, we have rooms ready for you!

There needs to be a quality control of all goods and services offered to tourists so that the scams stop and the rip offs are prevented.

Teach the people that RETURN customers are better than one time rip-offs.

Eliminate the stench of the moto-conchos and the kids that dirty your windshield.

Clean the garbage off the sides of the street and get tough on littering.

Let the deeds follow the words. It would be enough if only half of the promises were kept.
Puerto Plata is one of the most beautiful areas of the country. It deserves a relaunch.

What the Puerto Plata BIG SHOTS need to do is to focus on HELPING PUERTO PLATA, not their pocketbooks, as they usually do. The PP Big Shots have never really cared about PP, which is a beautiful and cool town. If they did, they wouldn't have let PP deteriorate, which they did. They destroyed the park, and made money doing it. And most of the Victorian houses have rotted away. I've watched it disintegrate for 28 years.

calvoleon - It's not just the politicians who don't care about their country. It's also the Big Shot business people. The PP business people are greedy and selfish, like all RD business people.

jasfalon - 100% correct! Everybody who makes more than let's say 100,000 pesos a month, thinks he doesn't belong to the low creatures any more.

calavoleon, please don't insult poor Dominicans. They are not 'low creatures.' The 'low life' people are the money people like the Brugals, Cisneros', Garcias, etc.

I don't insult poor Dominicans. I think that's the way "los ricachones" see them. I think there is no foreigner who despises Dominicans that much like their own "elite" which doesn't care that 700.000 don't know how to read and write nor if they are living in shacks. You only have to see them (the ones with money -however they made it) when they come from "Nueba Yol" on Christmas, for example. Just disgusting. They treat their own people like rubbish.
