PRESS RELEASE

Santo Domingo.- After careful review of our route network, including performance of individual routes within our global network, American has made the difficult decision to cancel service between New York (JFK) and Santo Domingo (SDQ) and Santiago (STI) effective April 2, 2013.  The last scheduled flights on these routes will be on April 1, 2013.

American Airlines has proudly served the Dominican Republic for over 37 years. We remain committed to the Dominican Republic and will continue to serve the market through our Miami Hub, where we operate four daily flights to Santo Domingo, three daily flights to Punta Cana (PUJ), one daily flight to Santiago (STI) and Puerto Plata (POP) and one seasonal flight to La Romana (LRM).  American Eagle also serves La Romana from Miami.

American will contact all passengers with reservations on the discontinued flights after April 1st in order to offer them alternative routing.

AA has gotten worse over the years. Their staff is rude and their service is less than desirable, probably why they are on their way out and yes on top of that expensive. Well perhaps not necessarily them directly but no matter they took advantage of the monopoly to the DR.

I agree Danilo and Guillermone, Adios, bye, bye. Should give them thanks for rudeness from the staffs.

This decision must have been made for other reasons ..,the flights to and from new York which has the greatest concentration of Dominicans in the USA are always full when I fly or try to book . The idea of having Miami as a hub simply does not work because of the problems with immigration and customs at that airport who seem to treat all people from latin America has potential trouble makers. And hwo wants to walk up to two kilometres from the plane to immigration .

i think its because the weight problem, whenever i fly from jfk to DR there are big problems with weight, so much that most times they dont let you pay for the extra pounds or for an extra bag, there is a sign in the jetblue lines that say explicityly that only this much is allowed to domincan republic, as you can see other airlines also have a problem with dominicans from the nyc area taking too much stuff to dr, u see people sometimes walk in the plane with a medium bag and 2 handbags

Great comment ricardito....unfortunately MIA’s Customs and Border Patrol has come under "fail leadership" reason for agents to tread families any way they want….no end insight for the Nazis

The press release from AA says nothing ......they just got their ass kicked by JetBlue, pure and simple. AA's entry into Latin America in the late 80's and early 90's was basically a monopoly. It's lasted about 25+ years.
SDQ was always easy picking for even longer.........thank you Balaguer.
Jet Blue has better service, newer aircraft, more frequencies. AA sub-contracted all their work at the
service level to Swissport 2 years ago....big mistake....and terminated ALL their long-term employees, and now, in bankruptcy still, are trying to recover and decide what kind of airline they want to be when they grow up. Merge with US Airways?
Who knows, but they managed to piss off all, at one time or another. Good riddance...they made their big money, tenfold and more. All good things must come to an end.

The Damn Tax is to high.....Thats the Big Problem

I have used AA for Three Trips and all Three Trips my baggage got lost or something was missing and I Filled a claim and got paid with no problem. They lost money on all my three flights.

Spirit is the way to fly and the rates are awesome.
