SAN PEDRO, Dominican Republic.- Environment minister Bautista Rojas on Wednesday announced the voluntary eviction of the first 23 families who built dwellings illegally around Laguna Gri-Gri, in Rio San Juan (north), at the start of a push to halt constructions in the country’s protected areas.

During a tour of the Laguna Mallén Wildlife Refuge in San Pedro de Macorís (east), Rojas warned that the authorities will proceed firmly against those who build structures in protected areas.

As to the people living near Laguna Gri-Gri, in Rio San Juan, the official affirmed that an agreement was reached to vacate the area voluntarily.

Rojas added that this week Environment will proceed against squatters of lands in the central town Villa Altagracia, to prevent pollution and damages to the environment and the natural resources, and which in his view pose a threat to the area’s aquifers.

Now thats a thought.
Hey if I were a squatter and had a choice of location, why not Laguna gri gri.
Who the hell wants to squat in the slums.

There was this one guy in south florida who took over a foreclosed mansion and lived free for two years. Not even the previous owners had the priviledge to squat.

Laguna Gri Gri is built next to a burial ground. Smell is horrible. I would move also.

There are no pheasants, Tomas.
If there were the feral peasants would have eaten them all.
