Santo Domingo.- Active and retired merengue stars will play the national anthem and lay a wreath in the National Alter at Independencia park, to mark "National Merengue Day" starting 10am Tuesday.

After the activity merengue greats Rubby Pérez, Fernando Villalona, Eddy Herrera, Kinito Méndez, Wilfrido Vargas, Jose Peña Suazo, Juliana, Dioni Fernández, among others, will visit radio and television stations for a celebration that includes government officials.

Journalist Fausto Polanco convinced the performers to take part in the activity and launch "merengue day" to air the popular music on radio stations, with the collaboration of the Dominican radio stations grouped in ADORA, which announced it will play the national music the entire day.
