Santo Domingo.- The Chamber of Deputies on Tuesday approved an amendment to law 158-01 to spur the expansion of tourist resorts, by restoring the 3% tax break on real estate transactions, after it had been eliminated in the last fiscal reform.

The legislation also extends the tax exemption period from 10 to 15 years and provides incentives nationwide, and not just for the tourism regions.

Part was approved in the first session, and counted the vote of 111 lawmakers present at the plenum of the organism. Meanwhile in the second session voted welcoming the project 115 deputies.

The bill had the approval of the Chamber Tourism Commission and now goes to president Danilo Medina, who’s expect it to sign it into law.

Hey Dreadlocks, these types of measures just helps the economic and I am speaking because I work in the Real Estate business and I can tell you that real estate sales has dropped more than 30% this year compare to last year when we have the tax break. This is one of the best news for people that are in the construction business in the real estate arena in tourist area.

the tax breaks are for new hotels. if they do not apply to established hotels, you will have a two tier market, which disadvantages the older hotels.

Dreadlocks, you do not know a thing of what you are talking about, when the said tourist area it means all those developments such as Marbella Towers, Hemigway Towers, Las Olas Towers, Cap Cana and any other type of development that are been build for people to buy as an investment. Like I said I work in this field so I know exactly what I am talking about and you don't. The hotels investment are just part of the package since they are in tourist areas.

Welfare for the rich and powerful. Meanwhile, taxes going up on foodstuffs.

The rich fat cats get bottles of Dom Pérignon on the house at the government trough.

....and the rest "eat cake" at cost.

Something wrong here ?

Dreadlocks and Josean are a bunch of Obamacare like guys whom wants to take money away from the people that produce and make other people make money to give it to a bunch of people that are sitting home watching tv and making babies and also doing drugs, having lots of sex and then having the working class pay for their hobbies. Tax breaks are good because it makes the money change hands instead of just being tucked away in bank accounts or underneath the people mattresses. Thank you PLD for making it happen. I am very happy because we are on path to have a good ending year in the real estate industry after a very downfall of more than 30% in sales compare to last year.

bernies, i will not waste my time debating an idiot illiterate who i am positive never made it out of the 4th grade. when you can show me that you understand the difference between investment and consumption, we can debate. go back to watching Spongebob Squarepants, or some other tv show that is appropriate for people of your intellectual level.

dreads just cuz you have a degree doesnt mean you have a greater knowledge of how things work. this tax break benefits all not just the "rich". look At the states where companies are relocating to tax free states, even Cano chose Seattle over NYC when the yankees offered him more, why? Seattle is tax free and has a cheaper quality of life

Take advantage of the tax break.

It is not going to last.

Danilo want to increase the country's capacity,

for the 10 million tourist he is pushing the country to get.

Some people in this forum dwell on being self important, and to look intelligent on other mens eyes.

Continueslly talking about subjects they don't know anything about.

Yet want to look savvy and super informed.

Don't pay attention to these self important illiterate fakes.

judging from your observations, you are little above a guy who graduated kindergarten. a degree does not make me know everything, but i sure as heck know way more than you and your semi-literate followers here about these matters. stick to what you know, if any such thing exists.

Cano chose Seattle over NYC when the yankees offered him more, why? Seattle is tax free and has a cheaper quality of life

what do you mean by 'cheaper quality of life"? there is no such thing.

secondly, where do you get your "facts"?who told you that Seattle is "tax free"?the State of Washington has the fourth highest sales tax rate in the USA.

time to educate yourself, dude. the only people who think you have made intelligent remarks are those who are equally as ignorant as you are.

The argument here isn't about where is it cheaper to live in the entire country by comparing all 50 States. It's Seattle vs NYC. Seattle is cheaper.

Luigy, you need schooling. it is only cheaper if the difference in consumption tax is less than the benefit of not being charged a state income tax. in school, they call it "arithmetic".

You can avoid the consumption tax but you can't avoid the income tax legally. It's a forced tax.

Yes you can. It's not a forced tax. The gov doenst hold you hostile to pay for it. You can avoid it by not consuming. Of course we all need to consume but let's not forget that ny also has a sales tax also. Dreads face it,Seattle was a better choice for cano, financially
Written by: dreadlocks, 12 Dec 2013 12:32 PM

you are right in that you can avoid sales tax by not consuming. if you consume, you have to pay it. it is collected from the seller, and he is not going to give you a break and eat 9% himself.

some people value production under stress over simply making money. Cano will go to Seattle, and will be on team that will go through the motions, going nowhere. some people like to have achievement as part of their life's work, that is why some guys will give up big salaries to be on a team which has a chance of winning. some guys just are in it for the money.

hey, rokete; your boy Cano is a deadbeat dad. the guy is a millionaire many times over, but he gives a measly 600 dollars per month for his kid..and his wife has to fight for it. she now is taking him to court, in part to get him to pay on time. what a loser.

sad..
