Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina on Tuesday took a major, if symbolic step toward his announced goal of 10 million tourists visiting Dominican Republic yearly, by welcoming in the National Palace, two Chinese families who chose to holiday in the country.

Tourism minister Francisco Javier Garcia said the visit is part of his department’s campaign to convert the Dominican Republic into one of the Chinese people’s favorite destinations.

He said Tourism promotes the country in China, to capitalize from that country’s 80 million citizens who travel the world.

Among the visitors figured Yong Cai, CEO of the Chint Group, which Garcia defined as Chin’s biggest manufacturer of electrical products.

As part of the campaign, the official said, a tourism channel with an audience of 580 million will come to the country to produce an infomercial on the Dominican Republic, in addition to a fashion magazine which prints more than one million copies.

They are not here as tourists but looking to see what more shoddily produced goods they can export here. They need a market like the D.R. to send all the below standard products they can no longer export to Europe and the U.S. D.R. places no quality controls on imports which is why they can send these below normal standard items here. Shoes, clothes, electrical products which fall apart days, or sometimes hours, after being purchased and the consumer has no recourse to the retailer or producer.

Let's hope the Chinese that come as tourist, leave something $$ behind.

Chinese are notorious for being excessively cheap, and selfish with money.

But, you can always find them at the casinos, so sell them casinos.

They will surely leave all of their money in the casinos.

Here we go again. A question for JHCL...

How...can we handle 10 million visitors when currently we are not educated enough to handle 4.7 million? Are the schools going to do a massive turn around and be world leading? Are all the corrupt officials going away???

What will happen to the US visitors once the embargo is dropped for Cuba???

More pie in the sky thinking. And I guess guys like you...believe this.
