Yes it should be quite the ceremony . I go by this site every day and its going to be a hell of a project judging by the virtual pictures on the fence . However , the bigger problem that awaits them is the poor infrastructure and planning that was done when this whole region began to develop around 20 years ago and now theyre building themselves into a corner . I dont think the forefathers had any knowledge about four lane technology when the first load of black top was dumped out . Apart from the new major highways ,traffic is becoming a metropolitan nightmare here in Bavaro with only one little 2 lane road full of potholes running through the area and no possibility of expanding these roads to accomodate such rapid growth without leveling 90% of the local establishments . Seems the Dominicans have masterfully outwitted themselves again .

...More jobs, = more money to spend, = more commerce, =more jobs, ad infinitum.!
On the other hand, who needs more tourists to despoil our pristine ecology, and more useless infrastructure, four-lane highways making it worse.??....That'll only benefit a FEW people in the East?!

If you live here ,you should know as well as I do that for every 1 business that opens in this town 3 more go down with an average shelf life of about 6 months . Just ask any of the prostitutes trolling the beach here for gringos that cant find a gig scrubbing comodes in Barcelo unless their great granny knows someone in H.R, and with a national unemployment rate of about 75% , hmmm do the math .
Furthermore, 85% of tourism in the D.R comes to P.C and the majority of the Dominicans lucky enough to find one of these coveted 8000 peso a month careers as a bus boy slaving 60 hours a week have made the pilgrimage from all over this country because Danilo will never cut a ribbon in Santiago or Higuey because his sugar daddy FORIEGN INVESTORS have nothing to gain by creating a job for poppi in the sugar cane fields and nor do they care , so when those generous dominican salaries start rising as fast as the buildings are , then Danilo can toot his horn at the ball .

Its never a fiesta until good ol Adaboy shows up and tosses his 2 and half cents into the fountain of truth . Im sure If Ady was making minimum wage at his local Starbucks from somewhere in the Big Manzana he would think Obama had created an excellent job with great opportunity to advance for him and his wife and 3 kids . He might even get free life insurance and profit sharing.
That said , Im sure like Danilo , Ady believes that 1OOO new Dominican jobs at the mall of America in Santo D. that pay 8000 pesos a month would be great for his starving nephews and nieces here on Gilligans island . In fact , If you have kids Ady you may want to consider flying them here to apply within before the competition heats up . After all , they may have a better shot of survival here 10 years from now than they would working part time at Starbucks .
From: Dominican Republic
For the record Adaboy , If you have interest , Corporate American jobs are paying huge dividends for Dominican workers these days . Burger king and Pizza Hut are now hiring here in Punta Cana and along with an extensive benefit package that includes excellent working conditions , you recieve a generous starting salary of 8000 pesos a month and thats just as a customer service rep , but if you can pay your dues and kiss the corporate badge , before long you will be promoted from within to shift manager and your salary goes up a whopping 4000 pesos monthly , now how does that sound Ady ? Oh but most importantly Ady , you can go home proud as punch every night as the blisters on your big toes eat through the soles of your Thomm Mcanns knowing that your part of a winning team . dominican heartbeat ..it is always good to receive first hand information here ,,and in the case of the Punta Cana area , from you and PC Mike I only go to PC now to play golf and mainly in the non tourist season . But I have seen the mess of the planning of Bavaro and I do not know what will be the final answer...It reminds me of that horrible small road going through the centre of Cabarate which has grown out of what could have been thought of 20 years ago
I normally agree with what Ron Evans writes but in this case the initial planning of the Bavaro and Punta Cana area has been so poor that I think that what dominican heartbeat writes is quite correct..it is going to be a massive operation to get central Bavaro having more than a naroow track through town.
I very much regret that Dreadlocks has chosen to make a joke of this opening ,,but I expected the normal negativity from Josean .
From: Dominican Republic, calle A.Portes
In relation to the comment made that there never will be ribbon cutting in Santiago or Higuey because it is the land of the sugar daddies..I do not think you are correct , Higuey is doing very well out of the need of Bavaro and Punta Cana to furnish buildings, to provide cheap accomodation and to provide materials not found further east .
I can not commenton Santiago but it seems that Puerta Plata is moving forwards once again and that the government is anxious to make the SW area more popular with tourists

Ron Evans yes I agree with your latest comment but i also agree with dominican heartbeat in his comment aboutthe lack of initial planning in Bavaro .. I am sure there will be a solution but the ribbon development that has already been built along a narrow road means that to make the smart and sensible solution . a lot of capital already spent will have to be lost .either by tearing many businesses down for a wider road or building behind a wider road a long way inland and having the businesses suffer, .It is mainly on that item that I agreed with dominican heartbeat who like anyone living between PC and Bavaro for the last decade could see the traffic problem becoming worse

Dam josean now you have done it!
.................You have contaminated the IMF and the World Bank with your "negativity!"
"Focus on low quality of jobs in the DR"
An International Monetary Fund working paper "Growth and Employment in the Dominican Republic: Options for a Job-Rich Growth" by Umidjon Abdullaev and Marcello Estevao released on 8 February focuses on business conditions in the Dominican Republic and pinpoints areas for improvement.
It highlights that while the Dominican Republic has posted high rates of output and productivity growth, labor market indicators have remained weak during the past 20 years.
The paper documents these trends, showing that the rapid productivity growth originates in a few sectors, while the bulk of job creation is concentrated elsewhere.
continued:
Written by: josean, 15 Feb 2013 4:28 PM
From: United States, Fighting the Dictatorship of the Narco PLD Mafia; Guillermo Moreno President 2016
It explains that the speed of job creation has not been enough to raise employment rates, and lackluster real earnings along with still-rampant labor market informality suggest that most of the new jobs are of low quality.
Low real wages and low labor force participation suggest the need of raising market wages above fallback incomes to attract individuals to the labor force. For that, measures to improve education with a focus on business training and technical training and reduce product market distortions would be helpful.
The World Bank Enterprise Surveys clearly indicate that firms in the DR operate in a regulatory environment that is not fully conducive to expansion and growth.
Indeed, business conditions in the Dominican Republic lag behind several other Latin American and Caribbean countries, resulting in a prevalence of small-scale enterprises and self-employed workers - traits usually associated with lower productivity levels.

From: United States, Fighting the Dictatorship of the Narco PLD Mafia; Guillermo Moreno President 2016
Lowering bureaucracy costs, the incidence of business-related corruption, and the cost of tax compliance would notably contribute to an improved business climate with significant payoffs in terms of higher labor productivity growth.
Reducing the incidence of corruption in firms' everyday operations might strengthen the effect of other initiatives aimed at improving the business climate, the study reports in its conclusions.
The study suggests that recent growth performance in the DR, showing in particular that high output growth and large productivity gains has been concentrated in a few sectors.
Such sectors (especially manufacturing, telecommunications and financial services) have had limited impact on employment generation, even though they have been growing at above-average growth rates and generating a large share of the Dominican GDP.
continued:
Written by: josean, 15 Feb 2013 4:34 PM
From: United States, Fighting the Dictatorship of the Narco PLD Mafia; Guillermo Moreno President 2016
The paper says that widespread labor market informality is an obstacle to raising job quality in the Dominican Republic.
Informality is pervasive and self-reinforcing: firms using informal labor arrangements tend to pay less tax and interact mostly with other firms hiring informal workers to avoid detection, which spreads the incidence of informality in the economy.

The question is what does the alleged 100 million dollar project have to do with prosperity of the average Dominican?
From: United States
Ricardolito, as you well know, Bavaro and Punta Cana are the focal points of tourism in the DR. the whole balancing act is not to overcrowd it, or it will become the new POP. the problem with mass destinations is a phenomenon called "crowdout effect". the lower echelon mass tourist crowds out the higher echelon allocentric tourist, who is more educated, more of a professional, has more money, and spends more money. they are also more conscious of their hosts, and do less environmental and social damage than the low end tourists. what PC has to do is to stop, evaluate, and plan. just building concrete structures to house more and more people is a self defeating strategy, since nothing destroys a tourist destination quicker than the effects of overcrowding.

In a global economy, it makes little difference who owns what, where. Let’s look at all the Japanese and European car makers, for instance, that has set up factories in the US and other parts of the world, to the benefit of the local labor force.
Other than miners, whatever multinational that wishes to operate in the DR, will, to a large extent, benefit greatly, our people and our economy . By and large, the trend has been established and will continue. As long as the nation maintains its democratic bent, and efforts to provide the necessary infrastructure and energy to continue its relentless progress forward, this is a virtual reality, rather than a promise.

.Dreadlocks Punta Cana Bavaro is becoming or maybe has already become just like Honolulu in Oahu , Hawaii with rows and rows of hotels all cramped up together along the beach and several streets back but once out of Honolulu tourist area , the rest of the islland is very nice . The back streets of Honolulu are just small houses or apartments for the workers ...Maui is much the same but on a smaller version and golf orientated . Of course the difference is that Hawaii is a state in a very wealthy country and is also heavily supported by the Japanese and other Asians but it used to be a planning mess .The hotels there are not AI but have incentives to eat in the hotel .
I have no aversion to cutting ribbons or making a plaque at the start and end of a project ,,it is just one of those political showing off things and I have absolutely no idea who is putting the money in. Although you are so right, the DR unfortunately does not possess none of the few wonders of the world, other then perhaps our women, but we do have however, from a historical perspective a great number of firsts. The first European settlement, hospital and university just to mention a few among other firsts. Additionally, let us not forget and until proven otherwise, it was the first place reached by Christopher Columbus and his crew during their first voyages into new areas of the world. Therefore, just on that itself is a motivator for a niche travel market who wish to experience the past, and for what its worth, it is something no other country in the western hemisphere can claim. That makes us unique, special and different. Therefore, we are not just a beach, booze and pussy destination, unless our circles of leisure focus exlusively on that

A brilliant post, and I say that without my usual blend of shit lip sarcasm . Perhaps a big raw steak over the black eye is about the best it will get , so its no mystery that the first thing that pops up in ones mind when they think D.R is the same thing popping up in their pants. As for firsts , sadly even in the sex tourism catergory the D.R doesnt even get sloppy seconds or a blue ribbon for coming in 3rd . Thailand , the Phillipines, Brazil and coming in forth down the stretch is Danilos little Nellie .
From: Dominican Republic
That said G,
as I posted earlier , the D.R i believe is the most underated destination in the world when its comes to natural beauty and beaches . This However can be a positive or a negative depending on which side of the fence you are on .
On the one hand , as I also posted , 85% of tourism here is sucked up in P.C so that means that the most beautiful unspoiled places here such as Bahia Aguilas , Cabrera and much of the north coast region between Rio San Juan and Las Galeras still offer us Gods country without all incs and swim with flipper excursions on every corner and although its selfish, I hope to God it stays that way . On the other hand , WHEN , the day comes and Danilo or his hopeful follow ups gets a big enough settlement for revamping a constitution that privatizes these sandy jewels or atleast puts the Remax sign on his door , all of this breathless wonder will be sacrificed on the alter of progress .

No man can ever be more than 80% correct in his theology . I never attack honest sincere error , only intentional idiocy and ignorance exhibited by your cousin Ernie who spends his retired life chasing u.f.os and second cousins around the corn fields of Mrrrrland as he figures out how to save this country from itself . Your alliance with such a fool leaves little desire to debate or argue intelligently on any topic and perhaps Im just as much a fool if I take the bait and let you back in to my ring , but everyone deserves a 3rd chance and atleast you have seen the problem here with your own eyes . As I said , As convincing or clever as I might think myself , Even if I hit the 80% level of correctness(AND NONE OF US DO) , atleast half of that is based on opinion and not fact , but atleast when I do give an opinion , I try to base that on what Ive personally experienced , not something I read out of Aunt Flo's spring edition of Readers digest .

precisely, guillermone. the DR has arrtibutes for tourism that stagger the mind. but they did not use them properly. the initial impetus should have been to capitalize upon the historical assets, to attract that type of tourist, the one who is interested in more cerebral things. the government should have made an all out push to get the brightest and the best architects and engineers to resurrect the Zona Colonial, and all the other histotic artifacts in the DR, of which there are so many.instead, with typical Dominican short term thinking, they went for the quick score, ignored the treasures, looking for the quick buck. so, POP was built on the cheap, with no forward thinking and research, to get into the show with the Bahamas, Bermuda, and Jamaica. that is why POP is dead. it has no Sphinx., nor Zona Colonial.

Dread ,
I spent last Saturday on the malecon in POP having a few cold ones with an old friend and I tell you the truth when I say there were more prostitutes lining the pavements than there were chinese tourists with cameras pouring out of the the tour buses . Yes, they gave the fortress area a strong shot of botox but not nearly enough to give it the permanent face lift needed to surpass seedy tourism . Again, this all can be attributed to education and the lack thereof . Perhaps the great black hope of the ministry of tourism is riding on the coat tails of Carnivals new cruise terminal but I still think that unless your a Dominican who loves rich white girls , the hot pink morena jewel boxes of the island will still clog the travel agents office faster than Kathy Lee Giffords fun song will anyday of the week lol.

Well I am glad to see, how you agree and concluded that after all is said and done in the very end the DR suffers more from a problem of perception with being a whxremonger's paradise rather then what is actual reality. Nevertheless, being a top sex destination is not an achievement and it is one list I would rather not make. It is nothing to be proud about and rather relieved to see that other countries beat us for the number 1 spot.

Never said it was. You took the sentence out of context and would need to read previous posts to understand what I meant. However, I was only responding to DHB who stated that the DR comes in last after Brazil, Thailand and the Phillipines as a sex destination. I was happy to see we did not make the list and therefore, glad that it is more hype than actual reality. Although, the potential is there it not something the DR should neither strive for nor promote. The govt must discourage it.
Nevertheless, there is a joke commonly heard in the US. There were two guys talking who claimed that only two things comes out of the DR, baseball players and whxres. Nearby was a paisano who overheard the coversation and was very offended. He approached him and said, "hey you should not be talking like that about DR females. My wife and mother are Dominicans. ...More jobs, = more money to spend, = more commerce, =more jobs, ad infinitum.!

Wow! Sounds like a dream job! And all the Pizza and/or burgers one can eat! Again, Wow!
If I were there, penniless, with a hungry family, and no other means of support, I'd kill for a job like that!
I know of some family members who are in dire need of employment......Whose ass need kissing to get a job like that!?? Eh?
I normally agree with what Ron Evans writes but in this case the initial planning of the Bavaro and Punta Cana area has been so poor that I think that what dominican heartbeat writes is quite correct..it is going to be a massive operation to get central Bavaro having more than a naroow track through town.

The paper documents these trends, showing that the rapid productivity growth originates in a few sectors, while the bulk of job creation is concentrated elsewhere.
continued:
It explains that the speed of job creation has not been enough to raise employment rates, and lackluster real earnings along with still-rampant labor market informality suggest that most of the new jobs are of low quality.
Low real wages and low labor force participation suggest the need of raising market wages above fallback incomes to attract individuals to the labor force. For that, measures to improve education with a focus on business training and technical training and reduce product market distortions would be helpful.
The World Bank Enterprise Surveys clearly indicate that firms in the DR operate in a regulatory environment that is not fully conducive to expansion and growth.
Indeed, business conditions in the Dominican Republic lag behind several other Latin American and Caribbean countries, resulting in a prevalence of small-scale enterprises and self-employed workers - traits usually associated with lower productivity levels.
continued:
Lowering bureaucracy costs, the incidence of business-related corruption, and the cost of tax compliance would notably contribute to an improved business climate with significant payoffs in terms of higher labor productivity growth.
Reducing the incidence of corruption in firms' everyday operations might strengthen the effect of other initiatives aimed at improving the business climate, the study reports in its conclusions.
The study suggests that recent growth performance in the DR, showing in particular that high output growth and large productivity gains has been concentrated in a few sectors.
Such sectors (especially manufacturing, telecommunications and financial services) have had limited impact on employment generation, even though they have been growing at above-average growth rates and generating a large share of the Dominican GDP.
continued:
Informality is pervasive and self-reinforcing: firms using informal labor arrangements tend to pay less tax and interact mostly with other firms hiring informal workers to avoid detection, which spreads the incidence of informality in the economy.

i love it. my playbook is being filled up with your witticisms. Economic Voyeurism1 i just read this week that not one major hotel in the country is locally owned! now aint that some $hit!!!
ahh, but Dominicans are still employed to carry out the garbage. No wait. That's what Haitians are for.
Our nation, today, is sitting at the cusp of great positive change. The world is looking in and witnessing the transformation of a banana republic into what can easily be classified as first world status.
The countless positives and present signs of a sensible new path taken, will make our future generations and our little nation, one of prosperity, civility and peace. A place for anyone, domestic or foreign, to want to call home.
I have no aversion to cutting ribbons or making a plaque at the start and end of a project ,,it is just one of those political showing off things and I have absolutely no idea who is putting the money in. The powers that be have finally realized that sex fills more seats on a Jet Blue 747 out of J.F,K on a Thursday evening than Casa Marina all inclusives ever will and until or unless they discover something better than pussy, Costa Norte should count its blessings .
That is hard for me to believe. Even the best sex in the world overtime, like everything else wears off, or is it that our brand of sex is like a drug and becomes addictive. I mean even if were true, it is nothing to be proud about. I personally would not brag about it.

Putting pussy aside , I would have to unbiasedly say that after travelling extensivly through the Caribbean and the D..R , that without prejudice , the Dominican Republic dwarfs any other island in the caribe when it comes to the best beaches , however , one must be willing to travel far and beyond the Monger huts to be able to discover these hidden gems .
There is nothing better than Dominican pussy, and yes, nothing that Dominican men can brag about because one reason why Dominican woman are so good is because Dominican men treat them so badly.

Therefore, we are not just a beach, booze and pussy destination, unless our circles of leisure focus exlusively on that
We are also Number in corruption thanks to the PLD and Narco Lie-onel!
Why did you have to come on here an ruin it with the PLD...........stuff.
We all know that already, please don't remind us any further.
More like 10 when all take their cuts.
Now Mr.g,
I also could have said:
We are one of few countries in the "New World" where the president partners up with an International Drug dealer with a $36,000,000 dollar tax payer loan or accepts and cashes a personal check ,in his name, for half a million pesos from another International Drug dealer and not even an investigation is conducted!
Oh Caca I just did!
A brilliant post, and I say that without my usual blend of shit lip sarcasm . You said that ''apart from the chicas the country offers no world wonders"' lol , but Im afraid to break the news to you friend , that ever since that first group of mongers set sail from Spain on the Santa Maria for what would prove to be the birth of sex tourism in POP under the banner of great new discoverys, the great Kings of this country from the pedaphile Trujillo up until Dan the ribbon man have done very little to clean up its countrys reputation . Thailand , the Phillipines, Brazil and coming in forth down the stretch is Danilos little Nellie .
as I posted earlier , the D.R i believe is the most underated destination in the world when its comes to natural beauty and beaches .
I see you still exhibit signs of your former turd tossing self and its comforting to know that 2 years later you have managed to recover from that fatal MOONY abduction that took place . How did you ever escape ?
I would like to ask you to verify your research and explain the sources that prove that this country IS number one in corruption but first , I would like to ask you for a huge favor ? Once again , I will be departing to other parts in a few days so I encourage you to start networking now if you wish to assume my duties here on D.T.
For the majority of our supporting cast , my uninvited presence is a complete nuisance lol. Its like showing up to old Feziwigs Christmas party and finding a turd in the punch bowl . BUT I LOVE IT LOL .
Oh, and by the way Ro, make sure you dress for success , I recommend wearing the lamp shade on your head with a new pair of Dickie brand overalls, , it has a powerful effect on people like Ron.
Well I am glad to see, how you agree and concluded that after all is said and done in the very end the DR suffers more from a problem of perception with being a whxremonger's paradise rather then what is actual reality. Nevertheless, being a top sex destination is not an achievement and it is one list I would rather not make. It is nothing to be proud about and rather relieved to see that other countries beat us for the number 1 spot.
dominicanheartbeat
Will do.
Much obliged.
With my Dickies, I can go yonder do the Hee Haw, with the Hill Billies, singing oh Susana, in the Deep South and the Bible belt.
I will surely go varmint hunting, in the forum while you are out.
later LOL
Inspite of my sometimes demented sense of humor, I am as serious as cancer when I write posts like the preceeding . Even though I am just an average gringo , I love this country with all my heart and to my own shame and embarrassment , I humbly admit that even though it was the wonder of Dominican women that originally brought me here 7 years ago , it no longer is what keeps me here . I suppose I too was a victim of a bad marketing scheme that lived up to its name .
That aside G, I did my research and unless there is or was another ficticious character on this forum over the last 2 years with the same handle , you are the one who I fought the kool aide war with lol .

"... the initial impetus should have been to capitalize upon the historical assets."
Absolutely.
Santo Domingo has many historic "firsts" yet there is very little evidence of this. I found the Colonial Zone a bitter disappointment.
By which guy replied, "oh really and what position do they play
That was two years ago you said? Sorry dude, I have no recollection. But wow what ever happened it certainly must have left quite an impact on you that you actually still recall it til this day. Did it hurt that much? It must have been one hell of a fierce fight. I hope you are not still sore from it. I am sorry and I apologize if it was me. lol
They either play short stop for the Yankees or Motoconchero for Gringos and the beautiful side of life wins the Miss Universe Pageant or learns how to slide down a greasy pole in some sleezy shit hole Sosua establishment .....
but its you who is suffering from an unusual case of selective amnesia from the final blow you took in the 15th round that put you down lol. Don't worry , I dont think that at this point of my career and just coming to the end of a 7 year midlife crisis that I have enough time nor proverbial sarcasm left in the reserves of my finger joints to go 267 posts with you if you want a rematch and a chance to take my belt but yes , it was one hell of a ride :)
Believe me we create and forever hold on to conflictive issues we might have had in the past because they give us a sense of identity. Perhaps this explains why we often want to relive sour memories that are long gone, far beyond its ability to serve us as if the fixation somehow gives us power.
"If you let go a little, you will have a little peace. If you let go a lot, you will have a lot of peace.”
Whatever it was , is only meant to be a joke man , but you are taking the loss, my posts and yourself way to seriously , but your blatant denial of ever having fought the 7 day war is only further proof that the humiliation you suffered is still gnawing away at you as you beg for a chance to redeem yourself lol.
Unlike denial, which is a psychological defence mechanism, anosognosia results from physiological damage on brain structures, typically to the parietal lobe or a diffused lesion on the fronto-temporal-parietal area in the right hemisphere.
Do you get it now ? Therefore forgive my disability. Anyway it comes in handy at times. I get parking benefits, the first to board a plane, I get to cut in front of line...etc, etc..etc. Those things are more important for me.
Therefore, I will give you the crown, U'da King........ :)
Respectfully yours Sir,
It is greatly appreciated. Most definitely a praise coming from you both is what I call a compliment indeed. Particularly when, I know you both have very high standards.
