Ah, good! Eventually we'll get many resident-foreigners who will buy my home-made "joy juice" moonshine, and nicely rolled MJ's, to stimulate appetite for luscious pupusas.

Good news !!!
The north coast has a lot of diversity, and revitalizing that area will bring jobs.
That is a very important area to develop, if the public sector is aiming 10 Million in tourists.

There appears to be a difference of $400 million between this report and another version on this project. Someone"s commission??

"Sorry Ady, no good ops for your kiddys on this side of paradise."
The kids have a pretty large first world market place in which to gain their own prosperity. If they can't hack it with all the opportunities that abound, then they don't deserve it. Tough, but just the reality. As for those low paying jobs in DR: better a job than no job. Sometimes you just have to crawl before you can walk. I don't recall the South Koreans or other now developed nations that have made the transition from poverty ever offering ONLY well paying jobs to jump start their own development, no?

Ady,
Never did I or anyone forsee a day when Americans and Europeans would be setting their sails to the tune of the merengue band at POP airport in search of greater economic opportunity but in reality , atleast for many foreigners in the tourism industry , they have a better shot of feeding themselves in a country such as this than they do in Miami or Ibiza these days as the dollar and the Euro continue watching their waste lines drop another size on the dow each day .
Better a job than no job , you say Ady , but if you truly know the state of affairs here in paradise for the average Dominican, you know that 8000 pesos a month doesn't even cover half the cost of basic living expenses for a family of 3 so please stop trying to comfort yourself with mind stroking sediments while you sip hot cocoa and tell yourself that your kin folk down in Santo D. will be just fine while their good ol Unc Ady warms his toes by the fire place up in Patterson saluting his ribbon cutter .
From: Dominican Republic
Oh and by the way Ady ,
your red caped heroes down here on the front pages still dont hand out food stamps, wic nor welfare to the ones that really do need it, but they are awfully quick to sign land permits before they go baby kissing in front of the polaroids while tossing tootsie pops and titles from the back of the first float at the independence day parade through zona colonial . DUARTE WOULD PUKE ON HIS BLOOD STAINED BERMUDAS ....
