Instructs top guns to defend properties

Santo Domingo.- After mounting rebuke president Danilo Medina on Thursday announced a reversal for an out-of-court settlement with holders of alleged land titles on Bahia de las Aguilas, Pedernales (southwest), and await the court’s ruling.

Reading a statement in the National Palace, Presidency spokesperson Roberto Rodriguez said Medina rejected the agreement, which he affirmed hadn’t been formalized, on recommendation of the committee named to determine where the plan was feasible, and included the ministers of the Environment, of Tourism and Legal Adviser.

The Head of State also instructed Justice minister Francisco Dominguez and National District prosecutor Yeni Berenice Reynoso to head the defense of the State's interest in the case.

"No one accepts that after 16 years into this litigation no final rulings have been handed down to resolve it," the statement says.

"Seeking the best possible formula," to rescue the men and women of the Southwest from poverty, a plan was designed that would "unlock" the long court litigation, in which the lands located on the coast of Pedernales province, various settlement mechanisms were examined of which we chose the "most expeditious agreement and which is the definitive settlement," it said.

"We reiterate to the country, the state is the rightful owner of the land in question, and we will continue to explore alternatives that allow us to implement the projects of economic and social development for the entire area," Medina said, adding that the pact sought the advantage of a quick and definitive solution, that would turn the heritage into profitable assets.

Settlement rejected

The agreement, which would’ve split the money received from land sales 55% for the government and 45% for titleholders, was rejected by civil society, media, political parties and lawmakers, who rebuked the negotiations with people who acquired the deeds fraudulently.

Reaction on Twitter the lawyer Lora Laura Acosta, who headed the push to repeal the agreement:  "When citizens mobilize and the government listens, a powerful duo is formed impossible to destroy. The one which must be recognized is Danilo Medina who listened to reason and made the right decision by amending the path. We know that other things will have to be denounced, but we know that there’s a receptive ear on the Mexico with Delgado," she said, in reference to the National Palace.

This going to end up to be a giant legal black hole.

Just imagine what is involved as there will be many victims other than just the state; I'm speaking of those innocent victims who purchased land from the fraudulent title holders not being aware of criminal acitivity of how the seller obtained the title. This whole morass will expose corrupt officials in the Registro of Titulos and DGII whose commission was and is to certify all documentation submitted to them to process is legal, should the government press forward with a complete and transparent investigation.

My fear is there will be very high government officials implicated in the title fraud scheme and there will be a lot of manipulation of the investigation to throw the hounds off their trail. This is one behavior the country has mastered. We the public will never know the whole story.

NOT ONLY "MADE" IN DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

No wonder the 911 project — the most ambitious public safety initiative of the Bloomberg administration — ballooned from an original $1.2 billion price tag to more than $2 billion and is years behind schedule.

The Dominican people whom the vast majority did not vote for the current installment of the PURPLE DICTATORSHIP have the PLD NARCO PUNKS on the Ropes!

Saint Danilo’s only hope is to abandoned the Lie-onelistas and Reformistas that have destroyed the moral compass Dr. Bosch left in the PLD and join the overwhelming majority of the Dominican Masses that are Fed Up with those usurpers of our Democratic Embryo!

The only person who is on the ropes is you..punch drunk ..No matter what party people may vote for at elections, everyone wants to see good decisions that are made after proper consideration ...and this is one of those decisions that was made after considering many options

Spin it PRUPLE One, Spin it;..........try to make your Lemonade after the Dominican Masses provided you with Lemons!

If the current safe face BS was “to consider all options,” why didn’t he do it before three of his Top Officials including his Most Prominent Legal advisor made the announcement that now with egg on his face he has to withdraw?

He either is and improviser or he thought he could pull a Fast One or BOTH!

Any which way you look at it, if money is to be received by the State as proceeds of sales, it will get stolen anyway.

Whether 75 , 50 or 100% is immaterial..

As far as I can see, Bahia de las Aguilas is not World Heritage Listed so it's f*cked already - same as Lago Enriquillo with its unique flora and fauna. Pity.
