NEW DELHI.- Dominican ambassador in India Hans Dannenberg on Friday affirmed he expects a boost in tourists from that country and the start of rum and tobacco exports to the Asian giant, as part of the Dominican Republic National Day celebrations, Efe reports.
"This is a special night of tobacco and rum," he told Efe in an event in trendy restaurant in New Delhi, with hundreds of business leaders and diplomats, and Shashi Tharoor, India Deputy minister for Human Resources Development, as guest of honor.
“These events show the strengthening of bilateral relations and the interest by Indian entrepreneurs, especially the tourism sector, in doing business in the Caribbean country,” the diplomat said.
Danneberg noted that the number of Indian tourists who’ve crossed “oceans and lands” to visit his island has tripled in just seven years to 2,500 per year.
Between puffs of smoke, sounds of salsa and Juan Luis Guerra merengues, the diplomat also noted since two years ago Dominican cigars can be bought in India, which also serves to promote promote rum.
Though Dominican Republic will mark its 169th Independence Day on February 27, it’s Delhi where the official kicked off a program that includes festivities in Mumbai, Bangalore and Calcutta, and in neighboring Sri Lanka, during the next few days in.
Santo Domingo’s embassy has been in India since 2006, which around 80 Dominicans call home.

Watch those numbers when it comes to tourism
In most cases, Indians are extremely demanding and expect to pay the least as possible. They will make a dollar last for a very long time and will ensure they get more than their money's worth which could be an all inclusive's nightmare.

Their culture may also be considered somewhat rude because they are not very mindful of others or their surroundings (with billions of people who could blame them)..., bump into you, no excuse me, cut in front of line, etc... rudeness may drive other tourists away.

Any wonder why this countries greatest wonder is its pink spots ? Rum ,stogies and the Dominicanas but not neccessarily in that order . As I said on the last thread, the government has done very little to clean up this countries reputation , infact , it seems hell bent on making sure that it lives up to it . This is the Caribbeans answer to Thailand and these chullo politicians who are the first in to the cabana with a 16 year old morena laying on a magic carpet when their old ladies go window shopping at Macys are the greatest advocates . Sorry, but the education and the intelligence level of even the most elite leaders in this country may take it from the fourth spot on the list to a atleast a number 2 contender behind the Thais on the monger polls but either way ,little nellies crack will always be the biggest carrot on the stick .

So the main export with india will be rum and tobacco ?? I never knew hindus to be heavy drinkers , mainly because they practiced many dozens of religions that frowns upon drinking alchohol. Also tobacco, I know many middle eastern countries love to smoke the hucka , but that is mostly islamic countries , again I don't see much of an investment with india , unless they add agricultural produce in the mix.
