Santo Domingo.- Dominican airports management company (Aerodom) executives Monica Infante and Christian Moreira on Thursday affirmed that the Madrid and New York routes left by American Airlines and Iberia won’t affect operations to and from those destinations.

They said British Airways, JetBlue and Delta Airlines will cover the discontinued flights staring April, when the carriers significantly expand frequencies from Spain, Dominican Republic and New York.

In a press conference, Infante and Moreira said the three airlines’ CEOs assured Aerodom that they’ll meet the demand for seats by Iberia and American customers, once they depart in April.

As as an example they cite Air Europa’s announced jump from 7 to 11 flights, for which they’ll have the number of seats travelers require. "But we have also received assurances from the CEOs of Jet Blue and Delta Airlines to provide the number of flights needed to meet the demand of travelers between the Dominican Republic and New York."

Delta and Jet Blue might seek to fill the gap but their flight times from NY are horrible. Who wants to travel at 3AM? Give us better flight schedules.

but Basta , this is exactly what the article is saying,,all the AA seats that are now not coming to the DR are now seats aboard other airlines ..I am going to NY for Easter and I was delighted to see that Delta have flights leaving las Americas andJFK at lunch time ,,if I want to return earlier I can go with United and JetBlue has numerous flights ,,cheaper than AA but I note they have gone up

Something doesn't seem quite right here.....capitalism and free enterprise are founded on supply and demand and profits, and if these truly capitalistic enterprises are vacating routes to DR, then the routes might just be less profitable than we purport them to be.

The contracts have been written in pencil.

I wonder, why isn't Air Canada taking up the slack?

I thought Air Kazakhstan was going to make regular flights after Leo and his entourage's highly-successful mission there.

glomar wrong again ..it is ony AA and Iberia who have dropped many of their flights and the main reason is because of very bad management ,,BA , on the other hand has increased their flights to PC as have Air Europa and you can get to Boston Chicago and new York on many flights on different airlines...just go to the PC and the SDQ airport flight information and you will see

The proof of the increased tourism can be seen all around the country but especially in the airport figures at Punta Cana and la Romana and in the capital ...the improved dollar will do no harm either

@Rick,

The airline industry is extremely competitive-even more so than the auto industry, where I work, and I didn't think that was possible.

There would be newcomers to the market, such as those you mentioned, but they are probably losing money initially, with the hope that profit will come with increased market share.

My mother goes to DR every year for a month, and I cannot believe how much more we pay for a 1st class airline ticket. Cost has more than doubled in last five years, which is really unbelievable, and unaffordable to many.

We have a saying here that Dominicans spend in two weeks every year what takes them all year to save. With this high costs, they might be down to spending just one week. How sad.

Let start to build an Airlines,,,After all there are plenty of tourist and Dominican coming in to the island, a $20 dollar tax on every-head coming in, come out to a to nice start up money with some Embraer 190 flying the NY-SDQ, MiA-SDQ Route.

Y Donde estan todos los ricachonese Dominicano y pelotero, inviertan el dinero en otra vaina que no sea una discoteca o un bayu.

Correct Delta will take you there in 25 hours or less at three times the amount Jet Blue is $300 higher than American so who gets screwed ? Tourist will look at airfare to other islands or countries like Costa Rica

telemeco,
suggest
"Let start to build an Airlines"

Would you feel safe in an aircraft owned, serviced and flown by Dominicans?
I wouldn't feel safe in the same terminal.
