Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Tourism Press Association (ADOMPRETUR) and the Occidental Hotels chain urge communication professionals interested in competing in the 10th annual Epifanio Lantigua Award to submit their work no later than next Friday.
It said the proposals to compete in the various categories will be received until 6pm at the ADOMPRETUR office, in the Dominican Journalists Guild building, in the Centro de los Heroes (La Feria) or at the reception of the Occidental El Embajador hotel in Santo Domingo.
The awards ceremony is slated for November 11 at the hotel El Embajador in a gala, with special invitations for president Danilo Medina, Tourism minister Francisco Javier Garcia, and Dominican music icon Juan Luis Guerra.
The Epifanio Lantigua Award will recognize the best journalistic works on tourism, TV, print, Web, documentaries, sustainable tourism, maritime tourism and press photography. Also recognized will be a journalist established in Puerto Plata who contributes to that province’s tourism.
The jury will choose the winners in all categories, and bestow the Epifanio Lantigua Grand Prize to the communicator, who in addition to receiving a statuette and an award, will receive a one week holiday for two in an Occidental hotel in Mexico.
It will also award a media which has distinguished itself for calling attention to the tourism sector’s issues.
The jury which will evaluate the proposals is comprised of Altagracia Salazar, Luis José Chávez, Aurelio Henríquez, Oscar López Reyes, Tony Pérez, José Rafael Sosa, José Rafael Vargas, Rafael Paradel, Giovanni Matos, Cándida Díaz, Elvira Lora, Cesar Pérez, Evelyn Díaz González, Luis Felipe Aquino and Cinthia Vega.
The Epifanio Lantigua Prize is supported by the Tourism Ministry and the Juan Luis Guerra Foundation, and sponsored by major companies.
Part of the funds raised by the award ceremony will go to the Juan Luis Guerra Foundation, to support activities of social interest.
