Santo Domingo. – Two Dominican productions, "Death By A Thousand Cuts" and "Dominican Central Mountains: Caribbean Oasis" will be shown starting 3pm Saturday September 7 at the Agora Mall theaters, sponsored by the Propagas Foundation.
Death by a Thousand Cuts is a short film produced by Ben Selkow, Jake Kheel and Juan Yepes, dealing with deforestation along the Dominica-Haiti border.
It delves into the changing reality of border communities and shows deforestation’s destruction of the social and economic fabric of two countries and their consequences, which sends a powerful message that neither of the two nations seems to hear.
Directed by Maximo José Rodriguez, the documentary Dominican Central Mountains: Caribbean Oasis, aims to raise awareness among citizens, especially Dominican students, to halt the destruction of the Central Mountains’ forests, and to get to know the national parks, scientific reserves and protected areas and their flora, fauna and water sources.
The 3rd annual Dominican Environmental Film Festival is set from September 4 to 8 in Santo Domingo, Santiago, Puerto Plata, Punta Cana, San Francisco, Bani, San Juan and Sosua.
The films will be shown in 19 theaters, with discounts for schools, universities and the entire community.
