Santo Domingo.- Tuesday’s announcement by Spanish carrier Iberia that it will resume Santo Domingo-Madrid weekly flights as of September 1 could signal the European nation’s economic recovery and boosts the Caribbean country’s stated goal of attracting 10 million tourists per year.

It said flights between the Spanish and the Dominican capitals will be mostly with Airbus A330 aircraft, outfitted with new business and tourist class cabins.

In a statement to local media, Iberia says the seats in its new business class can become fully flat beds nearly two meters long and 15.4 inch entertainment touch screens.

Iberia Luis Gallego CEO said the flights resumed thanks to its restructuring during the past year, which he affirms made it more competitive.

"We’re announcing new operations and services to our passengers, such as the resumed flights to Santo Domingo, having analyzed the profitable routes long term and through the collective efforts of all in Iberia to reduce cost to make the company competitive," Gallego said.

Very welcome development. I always enjoyed flying Iberia from Madrid to Las Americas. Now hope that they still can offer competitive airfares.

Don't eat the fish, chicken, rice, pork, eggs, hamburgers, pizza, corn, carrots, milk, water, beer, wiskey, and bring ear plugs at night lots of noise and if u like the ocean the waters are very rough and with wicked under tow.... at your hotel in P/C your going to have one life guard to save u (maybe ) maybe not most of them are Liquored-Up and don't speak English... Your hotel will have posted warnings not to leave your hotel grounds.. Very Dangerous many tourists have been robbed or killed in the DR in the last few years. In fact their murder rate is much higher then it is in Mexico.
