Travel demand to Dominican Republic jumps 45% in 2014: Expedia

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.- Web tourism giant Expedia group on Wednesday said demand for travel to the Dominican Republic jumped 45% in 2014 compared with the previous year.

It said Punta Cana was the Caribbean’s most productive market with over 50 percent growth in travel demand, while Santo Domingo was one of the 10 biggest markets for production in 2014.

"With a large number of available flights, a wide choice of hotels and a sunny climate yearlong , the Dominican Republic has consistently led the demand for travel and has been recognized as one of the most demanded destinations in the Caribbean for travelers from major markets, including the US, UK and Canada" said Expedia Caribbean Hosting Service director Demetrius Canton.

Expedia’s market management team attends the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE) which concludes today in Punta Cana (east).

In a press conference at Barcelo Bavaro Convention Center, Canton revealed market trends, company expansion and product launches, and said en Expedia team has been in contact with hotel partners to discuss the region’s success and provide advice to increase the visibility and tourism demand, “using the powerful tools of technology and marketing of the Expedia group.”
