Dominican think tank suggests tourism everywhere

Santo Domingo.- Tourism’s contribution to Dominican Republic’seconomy has prompted the Global Foundation Democracy and Development (Funglode)to unveil on Tuesday the RD2044 project, which suggests the development oftourism infrastructure nationwide.

Funglode executive director Marco Herrera said the entity’spresident Leonel Fernandez will present RD2044 at hotel Embajador at 7pm, tocontribute to develop public policies based on planning exercises.

"Every province has something to offer," Herrerasaid, citing southern Pedernales province, where the government pledged todevelop high-end tourism.

He said basic projects have also been designed for Pedernales’sfishing community, a gastronomic market, a lookout tower at Sierra de Bahoruco NationalPark, a wastewater treatment plant, government office building and other urban projectsto spurt economic development.

In a statement by the think tank, the expert said anotherproject designed by RD2044, which could be applied in Pedernales, is the Jaraguaand Sierra de Bahoruco national parks network of ecotourism projects, includinga visitor center.
