SANTO DOMINGO.- Several New York area media report the court sentence on Wednesday of a man who arranged sex tours to the Dominican Republic and advertised them on Craigslist and other Web sites.

Saeed Ahmed, 29, received a sentence of 10 days of community service and five years probation, after his conviction in May for promoting prostitution through his company, Jump Off Destinations. The tour business operated from his Washington Heights apartment, said Edison Alban of the Manhattan district attorney's office. He also had is own Web site, in addition to advertising on Craigslist.

The tour package included the number of days, airfare and accommodations, and specified the number of sex partners the client received, prosecutors said. The prostitutes' fees were buried in the tour package's upfront cash cost.

Ahmed, in a handwritten statement given to police said he also provided a chauffeur, tour guide and translator for clients visiting the Spanish-speaking Caribbean island for a cost of about $2,500.  He ran the tours for about eight months and included "female companionship, which included sexual favors," prosecutors said.

A human rights activist from Equality Now uncovered the scheme when the ads were seen in Craigslist’s erotic services section.
