Port-au-Prince.– The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has embarked on a special and targeted intervention to assist Haiti in improving efficiency and professionalism in its Public Sector.

One of the major objectives of the project, funded by Canada, is to build capacity in key areas of the Haitian Public Sector, especially those related to the operations of the Single Market and the operations of the Community.

The activity in its implementation targets areas such as trade in goods and services and training and technical assistance to specific departments and services including, tax collection, Customs, Commerce and Finance Ministries.

Now, I believe this could work for Haiti... I feel that it is more empowering than the falsehood of the typical aides here and there that only the NGO's usually get to benefit from. I believe this could finally work. Opinions, anyones?

If every Caricom nation would send just one (1)bulldozer or "bobcat"and one (1) trained operator to Haiti with these priorities: first put the rivers back in their channels and shore up the banks to prevent another flooding rampage;second repair and grade the dirt roads that have been washed out; and third help farmers put their lands back together so they can plant - then Caricom would be providing the real help Haiti needs now!
