Washington.– Two in three Latin Americans either don't care who wins Tuesday's
U.S. presidential election or don't think the outcome will matter,
according to a survey in 18 countries.
The poll found that 29 percent of Latin Americans think a victory by Democrat Barack Obama would be better for the region while 8 percent prefer Republican John McCain. The rest essentially don't know or don't care: 29 percent did not believe either candidate was a superior choice for Latin America, while 31 percent said they did not know.
The poll by Chile-based Latinobarometro also found that one in three Latin Americans think Washington will not pay more attention to the region, regardless of who wins.
"They believe that the U.S. election will not produce any change in Latin America," said Marta Lagos, Latinobarometro's director. "The most important finding, I think, is that the United States is losing power in Latin America."
As for which candidate would be best for Latin America, Obama had the most support in the Dominican Republic, with 52 percent, followed by Costa Rica with 43 percent, Brazil and Uruguay with 41 percent each and Argentina with 36 percent.
McCain was strongest in Colombia, Washington's closest ally in the region, with 19 percent, followed by El Salvador with 16 percent.

The American people have a clear choice to make: On one hand you have someone like Obama that has never done anything for the people or the country, someone that has refuses to clarify his position when it comes to the issues of fighting terrorism, dictatorship and defending the American interests. Someone that has been financed by Oprah Winfrey and other African-American money machines just to make history, because that is their main goal even if it happens at the cost of the country's safety and interests.
On the other hand you have someone like John Mc Cain, a REAL AMERICAN HERO that has fought for his country and it's people, someone who's not afraid to tell the dictators and the enemies of America that he will COME FOR THEM! Someone that has and will always put his country FIRST!!
The choice is clear; a FAKE SHOWHOST(Obama) or a REAL AMERICAN HERO(John Mc Cain).

That's right. A clear choice between someone with no plan to do anything other than continue the failed economic and diplomatic policies of the idiot currently at the head of his couontry, who has shown a frightening inability to make personnel decisions (Palin), someone who will force all Americans to pay a fortune for health insurance, and whose only real accomplishment is being a POW (McCain). Or someone who has exactly the same amount of experience being president as McCain, who has presented logical plans for extricating the country from a no-win sitution in Iraq, someone who realizes that the real terrorist problems are in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and has an idea as to how to fix the economic problems through tax cuts for the middle class, rather than continuing the nonproductive tax cuts only for the rich (Obama)

If the DR is any indication about interest in current events shown by Latin Americans then the fact that Latin Americans have no interest in events in the US is not surprising given the total lack of interest shown here in the DR about the failed government policies that force the standard of living down for all but the wealthy.

The waste, and cost are staggering, but tells us only the costs of the Bush administration's failed economic policies:
Policies built on budgetary recklessness, on an anything-goes mentality, with no regulation, no supervision, no discipline in the system, lies, deception, and 2 wars.
Mcwar want to follow on the foot steps of Bush and Cheney.
When Bush took over, the United states had a budget surplus left from the Clinton era, about doing a litte of non-partisan resarch before drinking the republicain Kool-aid.

Sorry Jander, the american people have suffered and prospered since 1776. It is easy to jump on the doom and gloom bandwagon. Seem those that do want to sit back and make the government solve all of the problems. Guess what, higer taxes dont solve problems. Changing foreign policies wont solve problems either. New blood certainly wont solve problems. Problems may not ever be solved. America needs a group to deal with the problems. Acknowledge and deal with them. If you think new blood will solve problems, great - keep your head buried in the sand and continue to throw stones.
Anyone who thinks that Bush and his administration has single handedly created this mess does not understand that a democratic senate and democratic house dictate policy. The president just gets to either take credit or take blame. Not too much more. The president is just one man representing power.

When Clinton first became president, he had a slogan for Bush I which that he just doesn't get it that "IT'S THE ECONOMY STUPID"! Now, we have seen how a 2nd term of Bush I would have played out with Bush II with another troubled economy.
Bush II & McLame had their head in the sand & gave Exxon tax cuts as Americans struggle to pay at the pump as Exxon made record quarterly profits ($14.0 B). We have record foreclosures, bankruptcies, bank collapses & job losses while CEO's get tax cuts. But FRANKIBOYMIX & RICARDO just don't get it (only because they choose not accept the record breaking FACTS above). The US economy is bad but still better than EU! But, like Clinton, Obama will have to turn it around to where average income increased $7,500/family.
The irresponsible GOP's cut taxes (in the wrong places) to reduce Gov revenues while raising spending on defense hitting record deficits under the Bushes & Reagan. While the only balance budgets were under Clinton & Kennedy.

I have said it before and I will say it again! The fact that Obama has had connnections with REV.WRIGHT MYER and other radical people, and repeatedly said that he will embrace dictators and be friends with those who hated America and called for the destruction of other democratic nations, raises a lot of questions about Obama's intentions of becoming president of the United States of America.
Obama has two faces; one is visible(commercial) and the other one is invisible(dangerous)! I hope the American people will discover the invisible one on time because in this delicate time there is no room for MISTAKES.
Honestly; what has Obama done for the country or the people? The answer is NOTHING, NADA, NIENTE! John Mc Cain has the scars and the record to prove what he has done for the country and the people.
Now is the time for the good people of the U.S. to honour Mc Cain SACRIFICES by giving him the chance to serve you and the country again!!!

ricardo, i am not a supporter of any party. i support ideas. i cannot find any common ground with any group, or association of people, who seek to constantly aggrandise themselves at the expense of the rest of society. in the last eight years, 40% of all the new wealth accumulated in the USA has gone to 1% of the populaton. in america today, 51% of people earn less than 500 dollars per week. yet, Wall Street types from 5 brokerage houses took in 39 billion dollars in compensation in the last 5 years. if you find that to be acceptable conduct of society, more power to you. as to the knuckle draggers and mouth breathers such as miloskorac; GET USED TO IT. Obama is going to win by landslide, and you have got him for the next eight years. so learn to live with it, or stop the earth and jump off.

Ricardo, 3 months ago i tried to explain that the youth vote and the black turnout would give Obama the victory. then the economy took a giant dump. not to mention Sarah Palin. trust me, it will not be close; you will see record turnouts, and a massive landslide. the polls are close because the youth have cellphones, not landlines, so they do not get included in the polls. as we speak, scalpers are selling tickets to the victory celebration in Chicago...to the youth!! have you ever seen that before? it is a defining moment in american history.

There are those who are falling to understand that the U.S. is an Empire and the most powerful country in the world. They are creating confusing about their economic but in reality it is more healthy than ever. If what had taken place in the stock market recently, during the eighties and nineties we will not be writing these comments cause our lives will have been dramatically altered and not for the better. This show that the U.S. economic is not totally dependent on the market and that what happens in one does not drag others to tatal disaster. So don't think that Mr. Bush has done an awful job, he has given the U.S. two more military bases, one in afpganistan and the other in Irak while the spoils of wars are still being distributed and the american people are the inheritor. What will Mr. Obama do for the Empire, thats what many will seek. As a democrat he will paid more attention at the internal problems. thank you , JD. hey, the guys who did not see it the way we predicted are just comatose. by the way, GM lost 2.5 billion last quarter. they will be BROKE by 2009, unless they get a Wall Street type bailout. unemployment is at a 14 year high. Circuit City is closing 155 stores, and laying off 15% of its workforce, a lovely christmas gift indeed. yet, taxes are at the lowest rates on record. so, will geniuses like anthonyc, who see lower taxes as the driving stimulus for economic development, explain the disconnect? to my way of thinking, the ONLY WAY to revive the economy is by way of massive government expenditures in infrastructure, hiring many people. the free market privateers CANNOT, AND WILL NOT, revive the economy. it just cannot happen. consumption is the only answer. there has to be a major uptick in liquidity, which can only be spurred by government action. you can quote me on that!

Here's something for those who are more well informed about the present economic situation: first, the top 1% has gained more than $600,000,000,000 (billions) and the year is not over: second, (ironocally) the bottom 80% has loss the same amount as mentioned above; third, the republican party has done their job by making and serving the top 1% more rich and more powerful. Mr. Bush senior gave the U.S. a permanent military base in Kuwait and the son Mr. Bush Jr. has given the U.S. two permanent military bases, one in Afpganistan and the other in Irak. The outgoing President has done more politically than any other president of the U.S. in increasing its present and power around the world. question can be stated: just how bad is the economic? Sure there are many people hurting and there will be a lot more. There will be a lot of more people losing their jobs but the general picture is that for the ones who hold the true wealth of the U.S. they will continued to do so and the newly elected president will make sure that wealth is maintained and protected under all costs while at the same time giving to the bottom a pacifier at least to keep them quiet and making them think that he had kept his promises. An empty bone and you are more than happy to received it and licked it. How can someone defend a system that keeps them in slavery, yes people have the right to vote - so what -- a choice bettween two candidates that represent two political party. Now is the Democrat so their emphasis is here internally while for the Republican their emphasis was externally. You think this country is going down the drained, you got no idea of true reality about the U.S.
