Now that elections are over and just like in times of war as well as in times of peace, Americans
and Dominican Americans put aside their differences when the contest is over and back the winner of the will of the majority.
Mr. Obama was not my preferred candidate, not because of any race related reasons but neither
was John McCain.
I had strong inclinations for Hillary Clinton because she would have been much better for the Dominican Republic since she comes here often, knows Dominican problems more closely than any other candidate and has many Dominican supporters and friends
in the Dominican New York community.
But now just like in times of war, the USA must come together and we must put our political differences aside and rally with our newly elected African-American president that will make
history in inducing the real change that's needed to steer the course of the USA to new horizons and return to the actions that have made America great.
Hail for Obama!

I am really glad and exuberant that this damn election is over and now we can get to work
and try to forget all the damn mistakes that G.W. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and other self righteous
asses put us in because of our get even mentality after 9/11.
Get our troops home as soon as realistic possible and make the damn Iraquis pay for the own historical and religious beef's, we are not supposed to be the whole world's standing police force.
Just like what doomed the now extinct Roman empire if we don't back-pedal really quick and take care of our own country as well as our really good neighbors like the DR who not only backed the
US in times of need, but even put in the line of fire our own precious Dominican soldiers side to side with the American troops. Then we are doomed to repeat the sorry history lessons.
Mr. President-elect Barack Hussein Obama DR needs your help to solve the URGENT Haitian problems that
are sinking us into a deep hole like quicksand. Do not turn away now!

As a Dominican and as a resident of the world I congratulate all American for taking in their hands their own destiny. It was about time that the United States had a president from the people, for the people and by the people. I feel joyous because I know that soon our time for Dominicans will come too. I feel joy because the first step is already given, and that is the hardest part, the rest comes through the work of the people of this world. It was about time that someone with a hart won the presidency, is time that the evil war doers came down. This is our time, this is the time we’ve been waiting for and I believe that change is coming, not only for the United States but also for the globe as a whole. Congratulations to all of you who believed and who still believe that our country will soon have a president as Obama in the presidential chair working for all Dominicans, no a selected group as always has been.

America showed last night that it is truly the country that has made giant strides in an attempt to forge a society. several months ago, i cautioned GC, and all else who would listen, that it was the youth who would put Obama into the white house. youth of all colors, social strata, and other backgrounds. what you saw last night was the end of the era of control by angry old white men, as their grandchildren and children threw their beliefs into the trashbin of history. secondly, it showed that hispanics will vote for a black man. the latinos from Puerto Rico, Central America, and the DR, all voted en masse for Obama. that points up the welcome evolution of the irrelevance of the Cubans, who had for too long held the political landscape of america captive to their self serving, self absorbed agenda. thankfully, they too can find a happy oblivion, and do america a great service by going off into a corner and sulking. it will be a hard grind, but i wish him well.

The loud Voice of Democracy has spoken! RESPECT IT!
Obama +7.1 million popular vote or 6 pts and 349 vs 162 electorial. Americans saw thru the McCain dishonesty (i.e. Obama would NOT raise my taxes). Mac tried to regain some dignity last night.
Now we outsourced Bush/McCain like - Ohio workers who came 2 work last month after 30 years & found out the meat processing plant closed without warning. I call my credit card firm but get a CSR in India becuz Bush gave tax credits 2 ship jobs overseas! GENEROSO, it will take time & more work to "forget the mistakes of Bush" (i.e. FL seniors looking @ their 401K plans)
So ANTHONYC, we the people did not just WISH for change; we WORKED for it! The grassroots O-campaign was FOR & BY the people gave an average of only $90/each (not like McCain's funds paid for by tax papers like me who did not want him).
DREADLOCK'S is right - a major shift in the USA but GOP's like Fannin do not get it (even now).
A better day in the USA!
From: United States
JD, it simply means that the country will be presided over by someone who does not believe that only some people are important. this man believes, unlike anti-social types like Anthonyc, that sick people of all social and economic groups should have access to medicine. the poor Mexican kid living in some Texas border town should be able to go to college if his grades allow him. and corporations should not be registering their headquarters in some backroom in Grand Turk to avoid paying taxes. the only people that such types believe should make sacrifices are soldiers. they want freedom, but do not want to share in the load. i say, screw em!

Dreadlocks, you're preachin' to the choir. Great posts! It is a new day & era in America which is what the constitution was only about in spirit is now also in form. Let's not assume we have arrived yet but it is only a start.
As an analytical economist, I noticed how West Virginia voted a straight Democratic ticket for Govenor-D and Senator-D; BUT when it came to choosing the President.... West Virginians switched over & elected McCain purposely (you know why).
Now, aside from Mississippi, W.V. is one of the poorest US areas, just visit the Appalacians mountains of back wood coal towns & U will see major POVERTY thus these people & the USA would do so much better under Obama-nomics but instead let "color decide their vote".
So, President elect-Obama will get push-back along our road to recovery & will not get the patience & benefit of doubt given Bush II (who put the economy in the sh!t can like his dad).
So, lets pray for America & our new President!
From: United States, Washington, D.C.
How glorious, even if it's an illusion, that someone not in Skulls-n-Bones is at the helm of the country. I hope that this marks a change in the way people participate in politics. THe US system is engineered in such a way to keep people away, to keep them docile. Many electoral boards were saying that they would be overwhelmed if 70% of voters turned out! Moreover, the fact that the elections takes place during a work day, that the poor are the ones with the least flexible schedule, and many of the "checks" at the polling station all work to dissuade people from participating. But yesterday, I hope is the beginning of something new.
We can't stop here. We need to actively push for REAL change, in both the US and in the DR. We need to hold our representatives ACCOUNTABLE for their failures to us. We also need to contribute to the solution by adopting a culture of payment - paying taxes, utility bills, etc. When we all work together, that's when the change we need will come.
From: United States, Washington, D.C.
But it starts with the institutions, forcing our leaders to act responsibly, transparently, and in the benefit of the public. B/c why will I pay my taxes, if the PRD, PLD, and PRSC are just going to divide the spoils of Government among their upper echelons, and leave my streets with HUGE pot holes? with no water? with no electricity? and with no public security.
To establish a culture of payment, we need to start by providing the services and showing the public that what we pay for, we get!

One more thing - I hope all those Nay-sayers who said Obama would never win, are all eating crow. After they got their fill, then I hope they start changing their mentality to be more humane towards our fellow humans.

BALDORIA__ On the money!!!
From: United States
great post, Baldoria. actually, the american electorate did hold the Republicans responsible. they did it by throwing them out on their butts. it is a quantum leap in american politics to elect a black man president, but americans felt that if that was what was needed in these times, they would have to do it. as to West Virginia, and places like that, it is a little more complex. look at the electoral map. the south thinks that the civil war is still going on. the center, with Indiana and other midwest states thinks that America should be a theocracy. the west coast, and northeast sectors all vote democrat. what is the central theme, you ask? i say COLLEGE. but, as i said before, guys in places like West Virginia, with incomes barely at the taxable level, are fixated on tax cuts. then again, those are guys who marry their sisters; what can you expect of them?

I'm really excited that I got to be alive to witness history in the making. It's somewhat bittersweet for me personally cause my Democratic Party Candidate was Hillary Clinton. But on the other hand I'm very happy that my Democrats won and that my vote helped elect the 1st African American man to ever walk into the White House as President of the USA. In oneway the glass ceiling has been shattered, but in many others there is still along ways to go. I hope that Mr. Obama is able to right some of the wrongs left behind by GW. Bush and his crooneys. I know it will not happen overnight, but hopefully it will happen. Know I'm not only looking forward to this new and well worth waiting for change. But I hope to also see in the not so far future the first ever woman president of the USA.

Accountability and transparency are the most needed things to have the checks and balances that
support the democratic way.
You can not have a President with dictatorial spending powers on the excess of a low ball budget to
use the public moneys at his discretion like we have had in DR ever since and before Trujillo.
Article 51 of the present constitution gives the president that unlimited power that should not be exercised by a president in a modern society, but once they take office the incumbent does not want to give up that power so he can buy votes, hearts, minds.
Also governments give each other an unwritten code of non persecution of past corruption misdeeds
"forgive so they in turn can be forgiven" that's the other problem.
Solution: Accountability and transparency in all purchases, contracts, hiring decisions,
spending, in other words make public all information on the dispense of public moneys.

It is a fine day in America, as we unite the world with this election. Barack (which really means blessed in two languages) Obama represents us all as one. He is excepted in all societies as a leader. I have never been more proud to say that i am a Dominican-American citizen. I once did not believe that it could happen as for the political system in the United States being genuinely real. Now i have been proven wrong, and it is the greatest joy i have had. I am hoping to run for assembly member for Washington Heights in my future, to give back to the community, to really give my soul to my people. I am a college student at the University At Albany, and i am American, not because i am a citizen but because we are the hope of other nations, to give them freedom, and justice, to set an example, for i am White, i am Black, I am Asian, I am Hispanic, and everything else, but nothing feels better than "SOY DOMINICANO", Please do not let our world down...for i have hope

There were millions of Americans who lost jobs, lost their homes, 401k dollars & pensions like GM vanished but they voted to "stay the course via McCain" even if the course is leading to HELL in a handbasket!
There is a warped logic. The REAL-DEAL is that Obama as a black President must do 2x (twice) as well governing in order to get 1/2 (half) the credit as Bush I & Bush II. Both Bushes increase spending on wars coupled with tax cuts to run RECORD deficits & both leaving the economy in recession again!
AC, will meet with accountants for layoffs because he does not understand that strategically it will cost him 7x (seven) times more to hire new talent & retrain them up the learning curve once the recovery sneaks back.

Some people should count what is change and what will change. Electing a black president is of certain significant but not to the proportion that it has been taken. What it shows in reality how a nation that advertises itself about humans rights, liberty, freedom and equal-rights has taken so long to let a black men become president. The realities of the world and of the U.S. will remained the same if not worse. The U.S. is an Empire, the most porwefull country in the world and to maintained this status it must continued on the road of establishing military bases in diferent regions that it selects a being vital not only to its securities but also to its dominations of the world. Mr. Obama, is not going to close those military bases which are in kuwaits, afganistan and now Irak. He will not raise the minimum wages to $15.00 dollars per hours which is the least to live on. CHANGE to be real must related to real situations that we live and those who hold their interests will keep it.
From: United States, Reality Check
Wow, you have no understanding of economics! Raising the min wage to $15 per hour? We already have record bankruptcies, foreclores & job losses. So, how many more small businesses will be shut down with a mandated DOUBLING of the min wage??. This is partly why the US is uncompetitive! Although, unions have done many good things just look at what they have done to the Auto Industry alone with what the big three did to themselves. It is economic suicide!
We need to drive out costs from business (not increase them) that is use productivity, technology and scale to gain strategic cost advantages vs other countries.
On the surface, more money sounds good but the economics NOW is delicate BUT we must NOT shoot-from-the-hip like McLame on something that sounds good but DO NOT THINK THRU THE LONG TERM IMPLICATIONS.
What would happen if your mortgaged payment doubled?

This article tells how the McLame Falin campaign was in disarray and the GOP VP Falin was already accepting defeat and making a bid for 2012 in the next Presidental election (no honor among thieves). The whole fiasco gives us a peek-a-boo look at how they would govern with no financial discipline & in-fighting (while the American people & economy deteriorate further). Thank God, we have a more intelligent leader now with Obama!

If anyone is still reading these comments: I will be short; instead of pumping so many billions into a market that eats it before it gets to the first round and giving so many billions that gets nowhere, why not raise the minimum to $15.00p.r. as has been suggested by the Clinton's. Some years ago they made it possible for the government to raise it at the present level. This is not enough to keep up with the changing costs of living. Having a constand flowed earned by the workers gives the workers a greater spending power which is good for business, the market, the banks, and overall the economic. Don't believe the illusion that it will create chaos when there are executives doing nothing and making millions while his workers are earning pocket change that can't even feed his family. Yes, the minimum can be raised at that level and it will at the same time create more jobs not less. Mr. Obama knows this but he will not even suggets it so the only change is that of a black men in D.C.

JD, i wrote a posting before the election, explaining that, in my opinion, Sarah Palin was not a team player, and would cut Johhny Mc's nuts off to get ahead. i took a lashing from GC on that score. i love it when i can say "i told you so".just like my election predictions.hey, i am not a genius because i figure these things out. it is just that people who do not, like GC and Anthony, are not too bright. it is all relative.

When you guys get jobs and have to deal with the real world of economics then you can make contributions to the conversation.

November 4 was a sad day for democracy and for the freedom loving people. I'm very disappointed with the outcome of the election, and I have to admit that I'm writing this comment with invisible tears in my eyes, because I never thought that in this modern time, democracy could be defeated and disappear from the only place where it really has existed; AMERICA.
The American people have failed and betrayed their own country for, what we now know, 10 U.S. dollar that Obama paid with Oprah Winfrey's money to buy them. It's a CATASTROPHIC MISTAKE and history will prove JUST THAT!!
I have said before that a victory for Obama and the Democrats would also mean a victory for terrorism, dictatorship, tyranny and for the Europeans; AND I STAND BY THAT! So even I hate to do this; I have to congratulate them because they are the real winners instead of the American people.
From: United States
Frankiboymix, what in hell are you? some sort of intergalactic traveller? do you know what defines democracyhere on earth? the will of the people, that is what. the people spoke; they rejected the stale old politics of the republican ideologies. as to what it signifies for Europe; who gives a rat's ass? the people elected a president of the United States, not of the European Union. nobody cares what you stand by, because you are a clueless ignoramus, making idiotic predictions which have no basis in rational analysis. if you want to make emotional remarks , go see a therapist. Dr Phil will give you an hour on his TV show, and you can have a good long bawl over the fact that the colored guy won. why can't you guys just have a little personal honesty and speak your minds, instead of trying to cloud the issue with pseudo analysis? we know what informs your disapproval. so, stay in Europe and go throw bananas at black players at soccer games; people are trying to improve America.

I share your sadness and disappointment.
Obama won not because he was an intelligent, articulate, disciplined man.
It was not because that he was pragmatist, hard worker and a savy politician.
IT was not because the American people wanted serious and cool leadership to help them navigate through these rough times.
It was not the American people sensed that there were the laughing stock of the world.
It was not because the American people wanted to curb to the belligerant and arrogant attitude that was running their country ,making our friends run away from us and winning us more ennemies.
No ,OBAMA WON BECAUSE HE USED WITHCRAFT. You hear WITHCRAFT !!!!

Wow, what a word " Democracy " but no where on this planet or any other is it truely a reality. Cuba practices it and so does every other country in this world. Anytime you got a least a handful of people deciding on an issue and then allowing themselves to vote as a majority, you get a glance at what democracy should be. The U.S. Presidential election is decided by electoral-college votes which is not necessarily the will of the majority in this case the democrats wanted to paint the U.S. map blue but there was more red than blue, the different being those states with the highest electoral vote. Sure Mr. Obama is and will be a popular President. Another reality, a wage of $15.00 per hour will solved the economics problems cause it will place a greater buying power in the pockets of the majority which are the workers, their speding will help small, medium and even big business all of which make deposits to their respective banks. The auto-industry will also benefits.

Your theory is flawed.
You fail to take into account 2 things.
1st You fail to recognize the amount of people who will be laid off if the minimum wage is lifted to $15.
2nd. Inflation. Those companies that do not lay off workers will have to raise prices to offset the increase in salaries.

It's O'K to have the top 1% pocketing $600,000,000,000 ( billions ) dollars and 80% loosing that same amount. It's O'K for a company to paid an executive in the hundreths of thousands, millions of dollars. Just receantly Comgress asked a bunch of executives ( that were asking for money ), to raise their hands, those that arrieved there in their personal jets. They all raised their hands. Sure in the U.S. no one wants to raised the minimum wage to such high levels but this not unresonable when tested against the injustices committed by those who do very little and no work. It's O'K to exployed people to make as much profits as you can, so why complained when these same people go to other countries to paid even less than the minimum wages paid in the U.S. This is called " Democracy " and " Freedom ". So now there is a price to be paid, it has finally caught up with them. Think about it. Economic 101.
From: United States
actually, it has only caught up with some so far. just wait until shoe number 2 falls; the commercial real estate defaults. we have only seen residential so far. then , wait for the fall of regional banks, the third shoe. the ugly is yet to arrive.
and Dominican Americans put aside their differences when the contest is over and back the winner of the will of the majority.
Hail for Obama!
and try to forget all the damn mistakes that G.W.
The colored kid Won
You just might get it.
All the drugs on our island. The miseducation, our slave wages, the black-outs, our brothers and sisters taking to the seas. Sounds about right?
I wonder what some people's definition of BIAS is?
Do not turn away now!!! Sounds familiar?
To establish a culture of payment, we need to start by providing the services and showing the public that what we pay for, we get!
Shangrila? maybe...but the 1000 mile journey starts with the
Be careful waht you wish for.
You just might get it.

Another idiotic remark from the Cuban Elite. What? You and the rest of the exiles think that Obama is going to magically wave a wand converting the entire US into a communist regime. Or that he will seize the financial institutions and hijack the constitution.
Just like the stupidity heard on the Spanish language radio stations who aired on a continuous basis, idiotic and inflammatory remarks about Obama i.e communist terrorist leftist etc. Despite the many callers who would call the radio stations asking them to tone down the rhetoric and provide verifiable sources, it continued. And when the liberty was taken to question average Cubans on the streets these outrageous claims they all resorted to the same idiotic Cuban controlled media sources.

I think Chauncey and AnthonyC are still doing Robo Calls for McCain/ Palin in Miami, like the Japanese soldiers in W W II who kept fighting in the Pacific way after the war was over.
LOSERS!
Dreadlocks, I have one disagreement with you... that is leave our buddy GC (Goulet) alone.
GC is MIA because he is out licking his wounds (like the angry men who boo'd when Mac mentioned Obama last night). It is very un-American to boo the US President (but these same hypocrites want to arrest someone for burning an American flag). Got the game twisted.
So, lets let GC lick his wounds in peace...come to think of it I used to have an old dog that would often lick his own balls after a rough day, hmmm. But hey, whatever, it takes to make us feel good about ourselves & ideology.
Hey, GC remember 1 good thing I said about the Mac campaign is... Sarah Palin is "H-O-T" middle aged white woman (full legs, calves, nice butt & a smile).
Dread, lets do a poll on how many wouldn't mind nailing Palin?
His choice for Chief of Staff served a Foreign Military during the 1st Persian Gulf War so he is a major security risk!
Oh.
And good to see Wall Street has confidence in Obama.

Ther are jobs in Florida but Florida is a Right to Work State.
That means you have to actually perform at your job!!!
No NYC Slackers wanted.
BTW I am hiring.
Ever hear of Jonathan Pollard?
That was before and for a different company.
Now that Obama has won I am thinking ahead.
People like anthony c, Chauncey and generoso are like Sharah Palin insignificant!
A short-term focus & long term pain! But still, Palin does have nice azz!
American ingenuity implies thinking; look before you leap!
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27568012
I think GC (Goulet), AnthonyC and you Hvargas will get a kick out of Palin - true story.
But then again, the best thing I can say about her is she is H-O-T!
Minimum Wage of $15 per hour?
You want 15% unemployment?
The last time they raised the minimum wage is cost 1000's of jobs.
Raise it to $15 and I guarantee that 1000's more will lose their jobs as well.
