Bronx, NY -- "Latinos Con Obama,” a group of young Latinos & Latinas and dedicated supporters of senator Barack Obama, is heading down to the Washington, DC/Maryland/Virginia area today, headed by the Dominican Haile Rivera.

"Our goal in the DC/MD/VA area this weekend is to focus on the Latino community and visit businesses, bodegas, restaurants, beauty parlors, and just talk to the Latinos about who Barack Obama is and why we should stand with him and vote for him on Tuesday, February 12th. It is no secret that the Latino community has a deep affection for the Clintons because of Bill Clinton's Presidency. However, I am convinced that once they hear where she (Hillary) stands on the issue of immigration, they will re-think supporting her. We (Latinos) can not support or have a President who believes that the best thing to do is deport individuals "with no questions asked" and "without due process." This is something I would expect from a Bush administration but definitely not a true Democrat", said Rivera, Founder and Coordinator of Latinos Con Obama.

Rivera further states that "after having dinner with the Senator back in

July 2007, I was even more convinced that supporting him was the best political decision I have ever made in my life. As a Bronxite, I have taken allot of heat for supporting Obama, which is fine with me, but I'm with him not because of what is politically convenient for me or any aspirations I may have in public service. I went with him because he has what it takes to make this country great again: courage, conviction, judgement and knows the issues. Senator Obama came from the bottom and worked his way up. That's exactly what the Latino community takes pride in: success. The Bronx, New York and the American people needs a change, now and Obama is the way to go."

"Latinos Con Obama" will also be accompanied by special guests DR-FLOW (www.myspace.com/flowkidvip) who, at the suggestion of Rivera, produced the reggaetón hit for Senator Obama "Obama Nuestro Presidente" (Obama Our President).

A great step...I applaud all. That Mid-Atlantic region is not to be taken lightly....I feel really good about Obama's chances taking the majority of the Democratic delegates there.

From a political point of view, US Latinos are mostly Mexican-Americans, Puerto Ricans (mainland and insular), Cuban-Americans, and the nebulous "other Latinos."

Mexican-Americans are the mass of the Latino population of the USA and they are in Senator Clinton's camp, as California on Super Tuesday showed.

The mass of the NY Puerto Ricans ... who some Latinos don't consider "Latinos" ... went for Obama on Super Tuesday. Clinton won in NY only because it was deemed her home state and most New Yorkers didn't want to embarass her.

Cuban-Americans are mostly deranged reactionaries who go for the GOPs, but they too have a "deep affection for the Clintons" because Bill Clinton won Florida in 1996 due to the passage of the Helms-Burton Act.

So, the statement about "deep affection" is true, but it misrepresents the will of the Puerto Ricans.

As for the nebulous "other Latinos," ( a category to which some DRs belong), they also have a deep affection for the Clintons because Bill let them enter illegally the USA and then, the GOPs say, let them vote for him.

Both Barack and Hillary will likely let them enter illegally, but not let them vote.

This may disappoint some of them.

Latinos who support the Clintons forget to realize that it was Bill Clinton who finalized the IIRIRA in 1996. He could have vetoed this racist anti-immigrant bill, but he signed it anyway. As a result many families have been separated.

First of all it is obvious why he supports Obama, second of all this comment

Has no factual validity and was simply an opinion pulled from the deepest part of the anal cavity,Puerto Ricans are not a block and have never been .I know Puerto Ricans who would vote for Obama and some who would NEVER vote for Obama ,but if Clinton got most of the Hispanic vote in NY and the largest block (of Citizens) is PR's then the writer is obviously mistaken.

The above is representative of the soft vaginal cavity.

After Obama's convincing win in VA yestereday, people are beginning to recognize that Clinton doesn't have the Puerto Rican voters locked up, as many of her supporters boast.

There is a rapid growth in the political influence of Dominicans in NYC. They seem skilled in winning the confidence of the Puerto Ricans and African American voters and leaders for Dominican candidates while the Dominicans solidify their base.

None of the Dominicans seem more apt in this art of alliances than the Dominican American state senator from NYC.

I hope they preserve their unity and not fall into the usual squabbling.
