Quito.– Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa says he will not immediately restore
diplomatic relations with neighboring Colombia.
During his weekly radio address Saturday, Correa said it is going to take
time to re-establish diplomatic ties, which Ecuador severed last week.
Friday, Correa and the presidents of Colombia and Venezuela settled a
week-long crisis that brought the three nations to the brink of military
action.
Tensions began to build after Colombian forces attacked Colombian FARC rebels
inside Ecuador last week, killing a key leader of the powerful leftist rebel
group.
Ecuador and Venezuela responded by taking diplomatic action against Colombia
and sending troops along their borders with Colombia.
The three presidents agreed to peacefully end the dispute after meeting at a
summit of Latin American leaders in the Dominican Republic.

banana republic and haven of terrorists Ecuador is going to withhold diplomatic ties from Colombia...This fool Correa does he think anyone cares

Correa says that Colombia's problem isn't his but now it will be. I'll explain.
Now that he made this big deal about Colombia attacking w/out permission, the FARC knows they can now hide out in Ecuador and Venezuela w/o fearing that Colombia will attack them. By the time Colombia asks permission, they can just hide elsewhere. If this is what Chavez and Correa want, then it's obvious they have their own agenda and their own interests. If it's not what they want, well now they're screwed bc there will be an increasing amount of FARC members in Ecuador and Venezuela and it will now really become their problem.
It's like Uribe said, it is more important to guarantee the safety of the ppl of a neighboring country than to fight about territorial issues. Correa should be thankful that the Colombian military is also making sure there are no FARC members in Ecuador and that they (FARC) know they cannot be safe in Ecuador.
I really think Correa and Chavez have their own agenda.

Those who learn nothing from history are doomed to repeat it. Many years ago, around 1980-81, Lebanon gave refuge to the Palestinian Liberation Organization. The PLO launched attack after attack on northern Israel and the Lebanese were either powerless to stop it , or ignored it. The result was devastating. Israel attacked Lebanon and rooted out the PLO and, as a result, Lebanon's internal, political, stability has been extremely fragile ever since. If Ecuador and/or Venezuela continue to support FARC, they are raising a serpent in their home and will pay a heavy price in the future. No one can harbor a criminal in their home who then shoots into other people's homes and then act outraged and surprised if the neighbors take matters into their own hands. Mr. Correa and Mr. Chavez should be careful: "He who sows the wind, will reap the whirlwind". Anastasios Sarikas, NYC

Josean: on the positive side "Haitians" read and follow "DOMINICAN" media and that means that your people are getting civilized, not wonder why the rest of the planet knows what Haitians means as human beings, "Nothing positive"

Josean, Leonel did his job as a mediator. He didn't solve the issue and make all the leaders love each other, but he lowered the tone and the tension that the region has been having...if only for a while.
You really have to stop sweating Leonel. You really sound obsessed and bitter.

While the rest of SA, CA and the Caribbean gave a sigh of relief over an apparent resolution to the problems between Columbia, Ecuador and Venezuela, the two psuedo-dictators of the latter two countries continued with their machinations of trying to physically disrupt and denegrate the government of Columbia. nothing has changed.
To paraphrase Marx, one must take the actions most favorable to the given end, even if it appears to be a surrender, if only temporary.
This seems tobe the course of action being taken by Correaa and Chavez after their return to their "home ground". To delay re-instatement of diplomatic relations is tantamount to saying that the "handshakes weren't really the way they were thinking. Such actions by thehead of state is not only dishonorable, but is reprehensible in a civilized society. These two have doubly shown their true colors regardless of their rationalizations to the contrary.
They should never again be trusted to keep their word.

My take on this situation, I support Colombia 100%. Granted what they did was wrong, even they have admitted it, but how long must the FARC continue to terrorize the lives of Colombians? This is war people, you think the FARC is really trying to use diplomacy to solve this? They've been at 'WAR' with the Colombian government for practically half a century. If Colombia uses the 'negotiation' approach like the Pastrana government used, what will they get???? The same results Pastrana received: continued violence, and a rejuvenated FARC bringing amongst fear to the Colombian people. Now like I mentioned before, Uribe was wrong for violating Ecuadorian sovereignty but the real people to blame are these leftist leaders such as Chavez and Correa for harboring these people and blaming instability in the region due to the so called 'imperialist' trying to take over the region. Give me a break. All in all, Colombians can now sleep a little safer knowing the FARC is gradually losing face.

That psuedo dictator Chavez is the one behind all of this. The people of his country are not doing well while he is spending his oil money to buy support. What a creep and it is unbelievable that people support him.
Colombia went after terrorists not Ecuadorians and that is a fact and all this window dressing is Chavez and his Stoolie Correa are just looking to stir the pot some more and export their Commie/dictator style to the rest of Latin America but supporting these terrorists and giving them shelter.
God Help the people of Ecuador and Venezuela because they will need it.
The US shouldn't buy that lousey 10% of Venezuela Crude. There is no other market for this high sulpher crap and the US has the only facilities to make it into anything. The US dollars go to terrorists!
