Obama and McCain

Miami.– With communities in the Midwest still under water, Democrat Barack Obama on Saturday criticized Republican John McCain for opposing federal spending on flood prevention programs and opened a new debate in the White House race.

McCain's campaign said Obama was confusing the facts and engaging in typical political attacks that the Democrat rejects in his speeches.

Both candidates have visited the flood zones in the past two weeks, since tornadoes hit and heavy rains sent rivers surging over their banks. At least 24 people were killed, the majority in Iowa.

Obama, an Illinois senator, canceled a visit to eastern Iowa last week at the request of state officials and instead went to fill sandbags in Quincy, Ill. McCain, an Arizona senator, toured flood damage in Iowa Thursday.

"I know that Sen. McCain felt as strongly as I did," Obama said, "feeling enormous sympathy for the victims of the recent flooding. I'm sure they appreciated the sentiment, but they probably would have appreciated it even more if Sen. McCain hadn't opposed legislation to fund levees and flood control programs, which he considers pork."

The bill that McCain opposed spent $23 billion on water projects. It passed Congress overwhelmingly and was vetoed by President Bush because he said it spent too much on lawmaker's pet projects. Congress voted to override the veto, the first time of Bush's presidency.

The bill funded hundreds of projects –such as dams, sewage plants and beach restoration– that are important to local communities and their representatives. It also included money for the hurricane-hit Gulf Coast and for Florida Everglades restoration efforts.

McCain's campaign said Obama opposed an amendment that McCain co-sponsored to prioritize flood control spending. The bipartisan amendment, which failed overwhelmingly on a 69-22 vote, would have made sure "lifesaving levees like those that so tragically failed in Iowa and Missouri are given the highest priority and fixed first," said McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds.

oooo

This a slight improvement from Friday ... a mini bounce ... for Obama.

But the US capitalist press belittles any single-digit lead that Obama has over McCain.

The bourgeois press makes even a fraction of a one-point lead or a even tie appear momentous for McCain.

Obama seems to have picked up about a point and a half from the flood.

The good news for McCain is that he is raising more money. The GOP reactionaries now shake hand with McCain as they hold their noses.

Obama's flip-flop on public campaign funding didn't cost him points.

Obama and Hillary will campaign together this week. This is a good idea, defensively for the Democratic unity and offensively against the GOPs. It may give Obama a bounce of 2 points ... or maybe 3 points. Two or 3 points won't be breakout for Obama but these points will be a pull-away.

As Obama inches toward a double-digit lead over McCain, the GOP smear machine will switch on and all the GOP liars will rush before the capitalist media, vomiting lies and slanders.

The picture at the top makes McCain look robust, steady, and vigorous. The picture gives no hint of McCain's limp when he walks or his quiver when he stands still.

When McCain limps to a car or door on TV, a frown or grimace comes over his face, as if he struggles against the pain that his movement occasions.

Obama's campaign did a 10,000,000 email drop, recounting the recent legislative history and McCain's voting record on federal funding of flood prevention programs.

After the water recedes a bit, McCain shows up at the flood scene, limps around, gushes his sorrow, promises future help, and hides his past opposition to the interests of the victims in flood control programs which he characterised as "pork.".

(CNN) — Charlie Black, a senior adviser to John McCain, said Monday he "deeply regrets" his comments to Fortune Magazine suggesting a terrorist attack on the United States would benefit the Arizona senator's presidential campaign.

Asked if McCain would stand to benefit from a terrorist attack on U.S. soil, Black answered: “Certainly it would be a big advantage to him.”

A McCain campaign official said Black does not explicitly remember saying the comment, but does not dispute it. According to the official, he was trying to emphasize that McCain is favored on national security issues.

FRESNO, Calif. - A top adviser to John McCain said another terrorist attack on U.S. soil would be a "big advantage" for the Republican presidential candidate, drawing a sharp rebuke Monday from both the presumed GOP nominee and Democrat Barack Obama.

Charlie Black, already in the spotlight for his past lobbying work, is quoted in the upcoming July 7 edition of Fortune magazine as saying such an attack "certainly would be a big advantage to him." Black said Monday he regretted the comment.

Black is also quoted as saying the "unfortunate event" of the assassination of former Pakistani leader Benazir Bhutto in December 2007 "helped us."

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Sen. John McCain sported a bandage atop his head after a run-in with an automobile rooftop.

The Republican presidential candidate said he banged his head while getting out of his vehicle during a visit to Canada last Friday.

The Arizona senator has suffered from skin cancer, prompting a reporter's question at a news conference at Fresno State University on Monday.

"I was getting out of the car in Canada and I hit the roof a teenie bit," McCain said. "The car was much smaller than the one I'm usually being ferried about in by our beloved Secret Service."

He said, "oh no, it was a brush with a low-hanging door," when asked if the bandage visible atop his head was related to skin cancer.

EXCERPT FROM FORTUNE INTERVIEW

"But he [McCain] starts by deftly turning the economy into a national security issue - and why not? On national security McCain wins. We saw how that might play out early in the campaign, when one good scare, one timely reminder of the chaos lurking in the world, probably saved McCain in New Hampshire, a state he had to win to save his candidacy - this according to McCain's chief strategist, Charlie Black. The assassination of Benazir Bhutto in December was an "unfortunate event," says Black. "But his knowledge and ability to talk about it reemphasized that this is the guy who's ready to be Commander-in-Chief. And it helped us." As would, Black concedes with startling candor after we raise the issue, another terrorist attack on U.S. soil. "Certainly it would be a big advantage to him," says Black. "

Washington, Jun 24 (Prensa Latina) US Democratic Presidential Candidate Barack Obama is ahead his Republican rival, John McCain, according to a poll carried out in South Florida, a key region for the upcoming elections.

Obama is ahead 46-30 percent over McCain in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties in the survey of 807 people conducted by Zogby International, the Miami Herald reported.

"Obama's 16-point lead in South Florida could springboard him to make it a competitive race statewide," said pollster John Zogby.

However, nearly 24 percent of those surveyed favor another candidate or have not made up their mind.

South Florida traditionally votes Democratic, but Obama's lead in Miami-Dade is wider than the narrow margin of victory posted by 2004 Democratic nominee John Kerry.

June 25 (Bloomberg) -- Democrat Barack Obama has opened a 15-point lead in the presidential race, and most of the political trends -- voter enthusiasm, views of President George W. Bush, the Republicans, the economy and the direction of the country -- point to even greater trouble for rival John McCain.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows Barack Obama attracting 46% of the vote while John McCain earns 40%. When "leaners" are included, Obama leads 49% to 45%. Three percent (3%) say they will vote for a third-party option while 4% remain undecided
Tracking poll results are updated at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time each day.

Just 22% now say the McCain is too old to be President, down from 30% who held that view earlier. Forty-one percent (41%) continue to believe that Obama is too inexperienced.

ooooooooo

You see the Rasmussen crowd is a bunch of liars, knowing Obama's lead is about 15 points, the Rasmussen liars put Obama's lead at only 6 points.

McCain camp pushes back on LAT/Bloomberg poll
http://www.politico.com/blogs/jonathanmartin/

Recognizing the danger of a perception hardening, the McCain camp has sent out a memo from their pollsters shooting down the LA Times/Bloomberg poll released yesterday ... that shows Obama up 15.

"If the L.A. Times survey is recalculated to a more normalized range for party identification, McCain would be down in the mid-single digits, which is what we are seeing in most other polls," write Bill McInturff.

But, of course, the memo is about much more than just one outlier (or, if you include Newsweek last weekend, two). The McCain camp, putting on their psychology hat, is trying to ease anxities and calm fears among party elites and activists that Obama is developing a lead so significant that it can't be overcome.

"It is important that both the campaign, as well as reporters covering the campaign, not over-react to every single survey that is released."

So, McCain's defense is that polls that lie and give Obama only a 6-point lead are good.

But polls that tell the truth, giving Obama a 15-point lead, are bad.

So, now we have a battle of pollsters.

This is a good chance to show what malignant hypocrites, liars, and scumbags the GOPs are.

Zoe Saldana, the actress, is a unique person whom many call a mulato because she is half PR and the other half, pure Dominican.

But her persona is mostly African American of the USA type.

Zoe supported Sen. Clinton in the primary, but the Clinton campaign failed to use Zoe fully, either as an African American of the US type or as a PR or a Dominican.

There are not many people who can pull some US blacks, PRs, and Dominicans.

Clinton held this powerful grip on the so-called Hispanics of NY; so, she didn't bother with Latino celebrities.

Obama wants Zoe involved in his NY, Boston, Florida, NJ, and PA campaigns.

But Zoe is real busy in Hollywood making movies.

Nobody knows what to make of Zoe.

Newsweek poll: Obama leads McCain by 15 points
http://www.boston.com/news/nation...._obama_leads_mccain_by_15_points/

AP
June 20, 2008

THE RACE: The presidential race among registered voters nationally.

THE NUMBERS

Barack Obama, 51 percent

John McCain, 36 percent

------

OF INTEREST:

"Obama's 15-point lead over McCain in the latest Newsweek poll appears to reflect the "bounce" that observers have been anticipating since the Democrat all but won his party's nomination following the final state primary."

"The previous Newsweek poll, a May survey showing Obama and McCain tied at 46 percent, was taken while Obama and rival Hillary Rodham Clinton were still competing for the nomination."

oooo

So, there are two credible polls -- the Bloomberg/LATimes and Newsweek -- that find that Obama leads McCain by 15 points.

Of course, the mainstream of the lying cappie press either denies the 15 points or ignores them.

oooo

Two polls by Bloomberg and by Newsweek show Obama with a 15% lead.

But Rasmussen sticks with its lying as almost all GOP reactionaries do.

Rasmussen has enlarged its lie by reducing ITS Obama's lead from 6 or 7 to only 5 or 4 points now that Obama leads by 15 points.

This is the way of GOP scum. What can cause people to degenerate to such levels?

This morning, from a cave somewhere in Pakistan, Al-Qaeda Minister of
Migration, Mohammed Omar, warned the United States that if military
action against Iraq continues, Taliban authorities will cut off America's supply of convenience store managers, and possible candidates for President of the United States. And if this action does not yield sufficient results, cab drivers will be next, followed by Dell and AOL customer service reps, and then Motel 6 managers.

It's getting ugly..........

In the 1980s Leftist intellectuals were pointing to the United States as the source of all oppression in the world, while praising the Soviet Union as the liberator of human kind. In How Democracies Perish, Revel aimed his sights at the self-destructive hypocrisies of liberal thought. As he knew, the very intellectuals who should have been supporting the United States were instead hoping for its downfall. "What we end up with in what is conventionally called Western society is a topsy-turvy situation in which those seeking to destroy democracy appear to be fighting for legitimate aims, while its defenders are pictured as repressive reactionaries."

As Revel lamented, at times the democracies seemed to find strange comfort in calls for their own destruction. As he observed, "Democratic civilization is the first in history to blame itself because another is power is working to destroy it."
