Miami.– Ferocious Hurricane Gustav moved into the oil-rich Gulf of Mexico on Saturday where it was expected to strengthen and threaten New Orleans after its 150 mile per hour (240 kph) winds cut a swath of destruction through western Cuba.

The Category 4 storm swept across Cuba in a matter of hours and now poses a threat to Gulf oil fields on a projected path that could take it ashore near New Orleans, still recovering from Hurricane Katrina in August 2005.

Forecasters said Gustav's winds had dropped to 140 mph (220 kph) crossing the island, but, like Katrina, it could swell into a catastrophic Category 5 storm, with winds above 155 mph (249 kph), as it surges across the Gulf's warm waters.

It was expected to drop back to Category 4 on the five-stage Saffir-Simpson hurricane intensity scale before reaching the U.S. Gulf Coast on Monday, they said.

tex the oil rigs in the gulf may be badly damaged but maybe this will demonstrate the state of the art technology that will prevent oil spills...so that after the storm the whiners will allow America to get on with something they should have done 25 years ago...That is start DRILLING and they should use Ozone Als head right on the bald spot to drill with

Like I was i dscussing with Belial yesterday, the Gulf is really about NATGAS if you strike oil that is great but NATGAS is everywhere. Off of California the oil seeps out of the seafloor and washes onto the beaches by Ventura and Point Conception, thats ok, but dont have a rig there trying to drill because it upsets my view!!!

gus got cuba.

boy, he showed no mercy.

gus is dirty mf, a low down wet twister.

miami twister lovers as of 7:00 ct say:

gustav is moving toward the northwest near 16 mph...26 km/hr...and
this motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days with
some decrease in forward speed expected on monday. on this track...
gustav will be moving across the central gulf of mexico today...and
make landfall on the northern gulf coast on monday.

reports from air force reserve and noaa hurricane hunter aircraft
indicate that maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 120
mph...195 km/hr...with higher gusts. gustav is a category three
hurricane on the saffir-simpson scale. some restrengthening is
forecast during the next 24 hours...and gustav could regain
category four strength later today or tonight. fluctuations in
strength are likely...but gustav is forecast to remain a major
hurricane until landfall.

obeah said yesterday gus make 4 and 5 today.

Miami say "some restrengthening is forecast during the next 24 hours...and gustav could regain
category four strength later today or tonight. "

Obeah says Miami full of it. Gus makes 5 today, the obeah says.

I don't believe Gus has decided whom it will get next. Everybody is betting Gus gets New Orleans next. But I don't believe he wants New Orleans because it's already tore up.

To get something pristine, Gus has to make a sharp turn to his left or right and that takes a lot of twisting. So, Gus may hang out in the Gulf for a while while he tries to turn.

actually, Jander, the prizes are George Bush and Dick Cheney, who completely ignored New Orleans after Katrina. and lets not forget 'Brownie". give us an idea of what ray nagin could have done? been a Republican? or turn back Gustav?

i am not backing up Nagin, but i understand Jander and his politics of deflection. the real disgrace of Katrina was not Nagin, but the Bush administration's response. you might disagree, but the rest of the world saw it. so, in order to try and cut the BUSH LEAGUE some slack, he turns his fangs on Nagin. talk about disingenuous and partisan!
