Santo Domingo.– Tropical Storm Ike could be a major hurricane by the time it hits land, likely to stick to a westerly path that would bring it just north of the island of Hispaniola, shared by Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

According to computer models used to forecast tropical storm tracks, Ike is expected to grow rapidly into a hurricane that could threaten the United States or the Caribbean.

Tropical Storm Ike, the ninth of a busy Atlantic hurricane season, formed Monday midway between Africa and the Caribbean. Its top sustained winds were already at 50 mph and it was expected to reach hurricane strength, with winds of at least 74 mph, within 36 hours, the hurricane center said.

This Storm and it's companion, Josephine bear watching since they have formed in a more southerly portion of the African coast and their track so far is directly west in motion.
Also, they have a lot of territory in which to intensify intoa couple of major hurricanes before coming into that portion of theA tlantic adjacent to the Lesser Antilles, Puerto Rico and Hispainola.

Keep a close watch on these two storms.

So, in Saturday morning we can expect to get some heavy rains and winds in Punta Cana. Warning should be from early Saturday morning to Sunday morning when is going to pass above Monte Cristi. So, Samana, Sosua, Cabarete, Puerto Plata and Monte Cristi will receive most impact, and as we know central area of Cibao and around allways get the most.

Skysail...I hate to curb your enthusiasm...but that is only one of 6 models....thus hardly conclusive or the odds on favourite.

Place your money on having it follow a course almost identical to Hanna. thus heading north of us by about 200 miles and putting us in the lower quadrant (less power)...if it does get close.
