Santo Domingo.- Dominicans in their homes, businesses and government offices across the country, from Pedernales to Puerto Plata, today observed the inaugural ceremony of Barack Obama, and join the world in hailing him on an eventful day for millions to fete, refusing to see it as reserved for Americans and insist it touches lives far beyond the United States.
Dominicans, a melting pot much like the United States, focus on what Americans may feel having the first black president, and the hope for change. They also see the transition as a signal for a new era, where a new international behavior isn’t dominated by the use of force.

OBAMA 2012!
From: United States, Reality Check
BenCardozo, "Perception" is one of those guys who are disconnected from reality because he still believes the "economy is sound" and both Bush I and Bush II did great jobs. Although Reagan was a great actor/communicator he actually built prosperity with record budget deficits which were exceeded by Bush II. Anytime you have tax cuts while accelerating deficit spending (i.e. defense, arms for hostages, star wars et al.) you will drive up the national debt with little or nothing to show for the spending. Contrast this GOP "borrow now & pay later" from tax cuts along will record deficits vs. the budget surpluses of Clinton & Kennedy.
Now, Obama has gained watch when the US economy is one of the worst in decades. Obama has always show us who he was even when Hillary, GOP and McLame were mudslingin' .... it did NOT guarantee them the White House. Time to Ditch the Cuba Embargo
Fifty years to the day after Che Guevara marched into Havana, the Los Angeles Times says it is time to end America’s economic blockade of communist Cuba. “Since that New Year's night in 1959, 10 U.S. presidents have tried to overthrow, undermine or cajole Castro, to no avail,” the paper argues in an editorial. “Fifty years of failure is too long. The incoming Obama administration should move quickly to embark on a rapprochement with Cuba and bring an end to punitive policies…Tourists carrying books and ideas serve as ambassadors for democracy. Manufactured goods speak for the creativity of an open economy.” The key is Obama’s unique freedom of action. In the presidential election, Obama won Florida without the support of Cuban0American hard-liners, freeing himself from restraints that inhibited his predecessors.

Amid all these high hopes, it may seem needlessly sour to point out why expectations must be kept in check. But it is also realistic.
Here are seven reasons to be skeptical of Obama’s chances — and the Washington establishment he now leads:
1. The genius fallacy
2. The herd instinct
3. We are broke.
4. Words, words, words
5. He rarely challenges the home team.
6. Everyone is winging it.
7. The watchdogs are dozing.

You forgot the high expectations that most people have on his ability to do miracles.
Besides having a strong baritone voice, Obama will have to become more radical than prudent.
Urgent measures:
1. Revision of wasteful government programs
2. Imposition of gasoline tax
3. Reform of financial industry including banks
4. Elimination of aid to belligerent nations and their "paid to be" friends that were more than 1/2 our foreign aid goes. Like Israel, Egypt and Jordan.
5. Bring the troops home from both Iraq and Afghanistan. We are broke and can not afford to keep policing the world.
6. Pay more attention to trade and commerce in Latin America and remove the outdated sanctions to Cuba that will benefit the agricultural and farm sector.
7. Enable more incentives for continued oil exploration and development of clean coal technology and nuclear plants.
8. Legalize drugs in a controlled way like in Europe and release the thousands of prisoners serving time for drug related offense

One more thing. Most persons are under the illusion that just because Obama has black blood that somehow that will influence his thinking or increase his compassion
for his black and brown brothers in Latin America and the world. Not so.
You will wake up from that illusion sooner rather than later. Obama is a creature of the establishment and unless he breaks with the same old ways of doing business,
he will not the refreshing Camelot people expect him to be and bring the profound institutional changes that citizens throughout the world urger him to partake.
We need change but not subtle bipartisan change, we need radical and urgent measures to send a message to the US citizens and to the world that change is coming and we mean business.

Expectations are so high that it shadows a very dark cloud over what Politicians are all about and are all alike. Perhaps people fail to hear Mr. Obama -- he will followed in the foot steps of all the past Presidents including Mr. Bush. His most high priority is the preservations and continued domininations of the power which the U.S. holds uncontested, to export to the rest of the world that only the U.S. is the example to followed as a way of life. His economy plans are to place the U.S. dollar back into the only currency worth more than any other and to show its powers over all other. Internally, people will savor the spoiled of wars and celebrate it while ignorant of how such wealth was acquired and still being acquired -- over the lost of so many innocent life. Who care, this is history in the making -- a black President -- a HOPE? for whom ????????????????

Talk to our Foes and Friends: Obama and Biden will pursue tough, direct diplomacy without preconditions with all nations, friend and foe. They will do the careful preparation necessary, but will signal that America is ready to come to the table and is willing to lead. And if America is willing to come to the table, the world will be more willing to rally behind American leadership to deal with challenges like confronting terrorism and Iran and North Korea's nuclear programs
Yes, there are like the US ECONOMY which desperately needs to trade and sell, EMBARGOES are luxuries we can not afford!
Turn left at the corner and two blocks down you will find Chauncey at the first Starbucks in La Habana on mile from "La Bodeguita del Medio!"
Just like that Racist preacher he had.
HAIL TO THE NEW CHIEF
It's time for a change! and believe that this administration will and I mean WILL be better than the previous one.
Thank God we brought in a young strong ,vibrant, individual to take us into the future.
Here are seven reasons to be skeptical of Obama’s chances — and the Washington establishment he now leads:
1. The genius fallacy
2. The herd instinct
3. We are broke.
4. Words, words, words
5. He rarely challenges the home team.
6. Everyone is winging it.
7. The watchdogs are dozing.

True changes comes from the people not a person.
Let s mark the Altagracia s day today

for his black and brown brothers in Latin America and the world.
JOBS YES EMBARGO NO!
You’re a genius professor, tenure is looking better!
Well I woke you up with that one since it is high in your linear agenda....but what about the other 7?
OB is hard worker and a motivator he expects the same form eveyone.
.
I am so relived that our resident political scientist approves of your analysis!
The tenure committee will not render its decision without his erudite review and opinion!
When u read an article and are asked to post comment relevant the the article u need to underlign the essential point of the article.U look for key sentences and key words.
Key words :Dominicans,melting pot ,like,US ,focus,Americans,feel, 1st black president.
They ask u to draw a parallelism,The co-ordinating conjunction is LIKE
Parallelism is a balance of two similar situations
The want u to show that the DR and the US linked by the conjunction like have the same melting pot and what Dominicans feel about one melting pot having a 1st black president.
You do not need to study nor undertand LIGUISTICS to understand what you are asked to debate.
No wonder some of you like wakocoocoo Rubi are beginning to show sign of bull shit fatigue and do not post anymore,
U r tired, all u want to do now is sleep.

Did you see these words mentioned in this article.
This how we usually get distracted.
We may disagree but we need to be team players.
We need to look in one direction instead of looking all over.
Free speech is speaking your mind and changing the subject if necessary, or speaking about a diversity of subject matters. Everyone has a different agenda.
We do not need the cyber police guarding DT. There are enough censors already.
We also have enough people preaching to us what we should to do all the time.
Don't be another one of them.
I was just trying to see if we can stick to the essence of an article.
I am afraid that we may become redundant ,we may loose interest and destroy the bond that we had for the past months.
I hate to see us answering questions that are not posed and refusing to answer question that are posed.
This is sign of intellectual cowardice when we want discuss subjects that are our forte
The article suggests that Dominicans as a melting pot ,focus on the election of a black man from a similar melting pot .
Ok if we choose to post comments about Egypt,Isreal,Jordan, Cuba, we may do it but I feel we lack the intelectual capital to debate the premise posed to us.
Anyone wants cares to post a comment ?
Que pasa ?
Cat got your tongue ?
Scared ?
Too tired?
feareful ?
Don t care?
Post the topic in the forum section to get better results and article life expectancy.
Only the "zombie" responded at 2:51AM, maybe he was looking for victims. LOL.
Anyone wants to give a try to ???
Please do not mention Haiti,Cuba,Jordan or Israel.
I suggested in the forum section of DT. Not here.
You are welcome my good friend.
He is sure a lot better than the other one we had for 8 years.
I don't see how he can be nothing short of a great improvement.
It's a relief like when Hipoloco finally left us alone.
He made the new guy taking over from HM like a blessing, we just were eager to boot him out.
Even the devil would have been better than Hipoloco for four more years.
Same with the republicans and democrats, it was time for a change. No more of the same.
Things got a good start, let s keep it that way.
Exchange e mails so you can have your little passionate chit chat.
Let General Roso and Duane debate the subject and learn from them.
