PHOENIX, PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE.- A human rights organization is stepping forward with a message for President Obama during the first 100 days of his presidency:

The Clock is ticking.

On January 20, Respect Respeto activated the Keep the Promise Clock, counting the days until President Obama institutes the much needed immigration reform policies promised to the Hispanic community throughout his campaign.

Found on the organization's Web site, http://www.respectrespeto.org, the clock will keep track of every minute after President Obama's inauguration until the country passes the immigration reform legislation so desperately needed.

"The Hispanic vote was significant to President Obama's victory," said Lydia Guzman, Executive Director of Respect Respeto. "Immigration reform needs to be a priority in President Obama's first 100 days."

During his campaign, President Obama supported measures to fix the dysfunctional immigration bureaucracy by increasing the numbers of legal immigrants in order to keep families together and meet the demand for jobs that employers can't fill. Further he supported a system that allows undocumented immigrants the opportunity to come out of the shadows and into a legal status.

Since a large part of the economy is composed of labor, President Obama should include immigration reform as a part of his stimulus proposals. Thousands of workers will be needed to help rebuild the nation's infrastructure and comprehensive immigration reform will allow for a workforce to fill those needs.

With the significant gain of seats in the House of Representatives and the Senate made by the Democratic Party in the 2008 elections, President Obama will be able to address immigration reform within his first 100 days. In addition, Senator John McCain will continue to be an ally in the Senate and assist the President in his efforts to craft and pass comprehensive immigration reform.

"The President needs to know that we do not consider these idle promises," said Guzman. "There is no excuse for him to fail to deliver the change we need. He has the votes in Congress to get immigration reform passed. The Keep the Promise Clock will hold him and the Democratic Party to their promises."

Do these people think Pres. Obama is going to throw the gates open and say, "come on in" ? I agree that the status of millions of undocumented immigrants should be addressed, but there are more pressing issues for the new administration to deal with.

Candidate Obama did not say much about Immigration, like his Republican rival (though people knew where stood on the issue) both kept relativley hush hush , not wanting to alienate potential non-hispanic voters.

The truth of the matter is that this is no time for willy-nilly allowing any Tomasito, Ricardo, or Haroldo to come and enjoy the American Dream. The Toms, Dicks, and Harrys are losing their jobs at an (alarming rate) all time high; States are cutting back services; Americans are at wit's end, and some degenerated to killing their families, and commiting suicide; This is no time for legalization of ill-eagels when little Suzy needs a doctor, and her family doesn't have medical coverage.
In case Guzman wasn't aware the whole world is in a tissy over financial matters; This is not a time to address isues that are not critical for "survival".
Unless the people he's referring to are voting citizens? The clock ticks, but not on 'that' watch.
Can you hear the alarm?

How is Respect Respeto a "Human Rights" organization? They are socialist PAC.

The Red Cross and the N.R.A. are human rights organizations.

"The Hispanic vote was significant to President Obama's victory," -- Which means they were legal citizens and able to vote. Why do they need immigration reform. If they are legal, they can fill out the paperwork like I did for my wife and daughter and wait like every other CITIZEN has to wait. ZAK is correct, even in the early stages of the debates none of the prospective canditdates spoke about the subject. To me its pretty simple, there is a process in place already-follow it and pay your fees and wait until its approved. In latin countries around the world, you have to wait in line for everything, most of the time involving multiple trips and they are not bothered by that. But a process that is fairly simple, drop it in the mail and OOOHHHH NOOOOOO we cant have that, make us legal now, for free.

US needs more immigration if it is to compete with the shoe factories of China. Then everyone in the World can buy American made boots shoes. 20 million should do it. Cuban doctors are needed also. US doctors are very expensive and the high medical charges kills off other industries. Also needed are French / British / Spanish transport engineers. This is so a network of high speed trains and metros can be constructed and Tom, Dick and Harry have a job in contrution wearing - you guessed it - American boots.

abc200,

I think thats a great idea plus they have of houses available.

Start a new business and goverment could provide cheap vehicles and great finance rates.

If this keeps up the US goverment will own the car companies and banks soon enough anyway.

You really have no clue do you?
First off as soon as you step foot on US territory you are subject to all laws and regulations.
Your Cheap Immigrant Labor” will have to be paid and receive all benefits according. Minimum wage. Social Security, OSHA and all other labor laws.
Why do you think that most low tech manufacturing jobs go offshore? There are plenty of people here who will work but very few will work for the type of wages need to make the factories profitable.

2nd. As soon as the Cuban Doctors would hit the US shores they are gone. They will assimilate so fast and start earning those 6 figure salaries. I wouldn’t blame them. Many Cuban doctors sent to other countries bail as soon as the Cuban Security Agents drop their watch for a second.

We have the Technology and expertise to build high speed trains. We even have one in the North East corridor but it is limited to only 150 mph as the tracks aren’t rated for higher.
They haven’t built more because there is no

No - you can have special enterprize sones and free hounsing for immigant shoe makers. After all farmers are well subisidised by the government so why not houses in special zones. No a contract is negociated with the new doctors similar to Nation Helath contract. For five years. Plenty of British and foreign doctors work on NHS saleries.
But now HST can be built using unemployed labour! For any journey up to 500 miles and above 50 train is often preferable.
Don't forget American Automation - shoes can be made very fast.
Where is a demonstration passenger service with a 250MPH train - China leads US by a bullet train!
