Port-au-Prince.– Eleven people have been killed in a United Nations plane which crashed on the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

A UN spokeswoman said the dead were military personnel from Uruguay and Jordan. They had been part of a UN mission monitoring the border between the two countries.

UN officials said the military plane was on a surveillance mission when it crashed into a mountainside near the border with the Dominican Republic.

Rescue workers had to reach the remote and rugged area by foot, and they found no survivors. The United Nations said all the bodies were recovered.

The force of some 9,000 troops and police has been deployed since 2004 when a rebellion ousted the former president, Jean-Bertrand Aristide.

4,000 Haitians have been killed since 2004 by the UN troops since the coup of Aristides so my great condolences go to ALL "4,011" who have died in this island. i hope that ALL rest in peace. I hope UN stands up and repeal the big forces behind the 4,000 killed and re-think their strategies when "helping" other countries.

Your name says it all 'gross" I hope your family or yourself are never involved in a plane accident. The lost of human life should never be disregarded, I hope you never have to suffer a lost of a close relative.

It is obvious here that some consider borders before lives. Sorry for you...really I am.

To all of you out there who do their best to unite a divided world, my best regards. To those who face misfortune while trying to improve the world, my heartfelt condolences.
