COCHABAMBA, Bolivia.– The 7th Summit of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA) began here on Friday with an aim to create the Single System of Regional Compensation (SUCRE).

Bolivian President Evo Morales inaugurated the two-day summit, during which the creation of SUCRE, a single regional currency, would be approved.

The idea of a regional monetary zone with SUCRE as its currency unit was proposed by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez in November 2008 in a bid to reduce the dependence on the U.S. dollar in the world economy.

The summit is also expected to issue a declaration on strengthening measures against the de facto government of Honduras. Chavez, Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa, Cuban Vice President Jose Ramon Machado as well as other leaders of ALBA nations attended the meeting.

The ALBA was created in December 2004 under the initiative of Venezuela and Cuba to counter the U.S.-led Free Trade Area of the Americas.

That man in the picture is responsible for the fastest eradication of poverty in the western hemisphere in the last 10 years. What is happening in venezuela has been copied letter by letter by Lula to help eradicate poverty in Brazil.

If things continue the way they are going, by 2025, they might be no poor uneducated people in venezuela. However, this will come at a price, and that price is a one government system headed by Chavez.

No other government in the history of venezuela has directed so much national wealth into the hands of the poor via schools, clinics, training, farming equipment, housing and infrastructure.

anthonyC, do yourself a favor and read the yearly report from UNICEF on world poverty and integration of poor into mainstream society. Unfortunately, i have no access to Chavez' media here in the U.S. So the data and information i get come from independent and American sources. Trust me the last thing an american organization wants to do is give Chavez any credit, but the truth is the truth, o they report it as it is.

Yes. crime has increased in venezuela, it is true, but remember that change is not easy and change is hard especially on those who think that they are on the losing end of such change.

There is out there a documentary on Chavez and the state of venezuela produced by Oliver Stone. Stone is not getting pay for this, but in an interview he say that he did it after visiting venezuela and seeing the positive changes he saw compared to previous visits.

UNICEF?
Your source is UNICEF? How do they find the time to do economic studies in between providing aid to terrorists and typical UN general Anti-Capitalist, Anti-U.S. rhetoric?

Then Oliver Stone? This is the same man who gave us the wonderful flic JFK. Stone is famous for not letting things like Facts and History to get in the way of promoting his agenda.

Oh and please lay off the "Hope" garbage. I have all the hope I need with that temporary tenant of the White House,

If you guys have any doubt, simply do the research. I have read several articles in time, and natgeo, praising Chavez' initiatives in venezuela. I am not venezuelan and benefit little from Venezuela, due is given where it is deserved. And this guy has done more good than evil to that country.

If you search any site or the BBC and see their news clips about Venezuela you will see the good things that Chavez is doing. Just give the guy the credit where it is deserved, stop behaving like fringe idiots.

As far as the tenant in the WH, GW, made sure that it was like that, you really sound silly and childish while showing your lack of common sense.

Josean, I just do not know, are they for real? or they just make sure they sound like idiots to upset the heck out of people that take the forum seriously.

it is really rampant in here, I contribute to other forums such as time's, first read and cafferty file, and never seen such a low knowledge level. I am really starting to think that it is purposely done, because it is pretty bad.

It’s a reflection of the fine “world class educational system” we have in DR to go along with our world class METRO.

Now for the ones who allegedly study abroad, only God knows what their major malfunction is!

Dagtan,

Ever hear the saying it is better to die on your feet than live on your knees?
I don't care if Chavez is handing out checks to those who voted for him. Since he has taken over there have been massive food shortages, Industrial output is way down and crime has become rampant. Combine that with massive voter fraud and his destruction of the free press and you have a success story like Cuba is a success story.
All hugo is doing is cooking the books. Looks good to some people but those who know realize what is happening.

As for your sources if you want any credibility please abstain from those that are known to be bias against individual freedom, Capitalism and the US. In other words do not even consider that waste of time, money and lives called the UN. The BBC is the UK's version of the NY times. A sad pathetic joke of a fish wrapper that nobody except Limousine Liberals take serious.
