Port-au-Prince.– The United Nations urged Haitian authorities and political forces to
guarantee stability and to reorganize the government, after the Senate
dismissed Prime Minister Michele Pierre Louis.
The call, issued by the so-called United Nations Stabilization Mission
in Haiti (MINUSTAH), says that all parties involved "must work together
in a spirit of solidarity to meet the country's many challenges and
goals."
The
appeal, made public in New York, acknowledges the good work done by the
removed head of government to recover Haiti from the havoc caused by
hurricanes last year. The opposition harshly criticized Louis for allegedly misusing the resources allocated to recovery works.
In
addition, MINUSTAH warned that the current crisis in the government has
forced a rapid election of a new prime minister to prevent instability
from endangering the promising prospects for investment in Haiti and
the creation of jobs.

I thought she was dismissed for being critical of the D.R. I was wrong. She was helping herself.
That's why this country is never going to see a brighter future, this is what they do with the international help, the powerful help themselves.
I really want Haiti to get out of poverty and become a prosperous nation, for their sake and our own.
May God bless this nation!

there is no solution, Haitians themselves are the only ones who can help themselves! but that's like almost impossible since they have a third world way of living in their blood

ateo1992, how can you prove that. Very poor selection of words to describe a people that are a simple product of their environment. Yes, if you say that they behave like a third world nation, since they are and their environment has been that way for at least a century, then by all means. But to come on here and make such an idiotic statement offenses anyone with a brain around here.
This is good news for everyone that it is being affected by the haitian issue. I do think and hope that the Dominican government in working very hard behind the scenes in trying to influence the haitian government. What we should have here is a trifecta, as we know the Washington practically touches all political decisions in both a nations, so due to this and the suffering on the part of the DR, it should ask for special privileges in having aces to haitian politics when ever necessary.
We should be there really entrenched into their political system, i hope firing of this idiot makes that eas

In my opinion we are already more active into Haiti's political system than most Dominicans think. Rene Preval is not calling the shots those actions came from another place far away from Port-au-prince. I think she was fired because of many other reason. They will use her corruption and inability as to be the reasons but in my mind this comes from comments made by her about other nations which could have jeopardise Preval own ambitions. I think the comment from her about the case of Carlos Neurilus was the last nail on her way out but preval had to wait because it would have been obvious that it was not his order but somebody else's. That's what i think happened here in her firing.

Very good statement and very true. I wish more people understood that simple yet effective statement.

although this hasn't been a favorable outcome, people need to seriously calm down. Perhaps it is because this is Haiti, so people automatically assume of chaos and the incapability of governance but a new PM (Jean Max Bellerive) has already been chosen. Madame Pierre Louis proved herself ineligible to run the post based on her qualifications (allegedly a funds misuse). The senate has the constitutional right to impeach a Prime Minister so this isn't an illegal removal. I don't agree or like the Haitian senators anyway (they're crooks themselves) but this isn't the end all or be all, the people barely even know of what happened, there is no mass protesting, the country is as calm as ever. This was an internal issue.

Further proof of how useless this organization, UN, has become.
Hope they evict them from US soil-permanently! Maybe they could re-locate to Havana, Caracas or Tehran, since this entity is primarily comprised of far-radicals and anti-US representatives. In fact, I believe "abc" would fit right in.

Only Ateo statements are idiotic? "This is good news for everyone that it is being affected by the haitian issue" Great news for DR! A s far as we know, a new stampede of Haitians my well be heading to DR right now. "I do think and hope that the Dominican government in working very hard behind the scenes in trying to influence the haitian government" They almost killed Leonel while visiting, but they, who can't not agree among themselves, would allow our government to work behind the scenes; yes they will. And Washington, due to the suffering on our part, -that they had never acknowledge, except to take Haitians side-, "will allow special privileges in having aces to haitian politics when ever necessary". As they don't know what to do with the Haitian, that may well be granted, and happily dump the mess in our lap.

carlosfranco, you forgot to add those of mixed decent and those are born on the national territory. The last of the two I mentioned will be tougher to carry out, but some will make it and others wont. The DR government can solve this one by issuing a set number of birth certificates and then take applications for them and do it case by case. in the mean time they should be deported and then recalled once their paper work has been cleared.
But i think that it will be tough to tell that Dominican mother or Father that their little girl or little boy will be sent to Haiti, jut because they are half haitian. I think that this will create a very disenfranchised and anti government group that will for ever hunt Dominican politics.

These are people that had backward logic. Hurt one of their own outside of Haiti and in Haiti they protest and called for justice. Inside of Haiti they killed and robbed each other, beat and rape their women and little girls. Live in the worst of conditions and yet they don't get together to do away with their ill-leaders and ill-formed-of-government. Do away the international force which is in Haiti to supposebly keep them from killing each other but they sure cried load enough to have the international community become a voice for them as well. The U.N. wants them to solve their political crisis while dominating groups want Haiti to remain as is. Just keep blaming others such as D.R. and not one word of what is really taking place inside of Haiti.

hVargas, what country are you from? Because if you are form the DR, you should know that we have not made our own decisions since 1916. Believe it or not Washington often allow our country to do as it wishes, until it does not agree with the decision. Therefore, we often function within the confines that Washington has set up since 1916.
so, the haitian case is no difference than ours when it comes to international influence, for lack of a better way to define it.
