President Fernandez in the Summit.

ESTORIL, Portugal.- President Leonel Fernandez affirmed that the elections in Honduras could be a starting point to declare a permanent dialogue between all political forces in that nation, included the ousted president Manuel Zelaya.

The leaders taking part in the 14th Summit of Iberia-American Government and Heads of State discussed the Honduras elections on Sunday and noted that they can neither be recognized nor ignored. They suggested a national agreement between the political and social forces in that country, which must be preceded by the consensus of the Latin American countries.

The discussion surfaced during a breakfast of the chief executives who attended the Latin American Summit, where Fernandez warned of the "wide scientific and technological gap between our nations and the developed economies."

"As to the quality of the higher learning institutions considered in global rankings, not a single Latin America university figures among the first 1,000," the Dominican chief executive said.

He also warned against the Latin American region’s sluggish investment in research and development; the proportion of scientists to the population and the registry of patents.

LF is huffing and puffing about Honduras. Hey, how about paying some attention to your own country. We are drowning in loans.

"...Fernandez warned of the "wide scientific and technological gap between our nations and the developed economies".

Amazing that LF would make this statement ! It is all due to lack of BASIC/PRIMARY EDUCATION in the DR case.

"Mel" is old news. LF along with all other macho latino leaders, are about to throw Zelaya under the bus (except for Chavez).

Watch Margarita return from Europe with proof of consuming great grub, observe a 5kg weight gain (tummy & legs) and several thousand euros worth of designer threads.

GOD Bless el pais de las maravillas...

Development gap? Stop pissing away our money on trips with your buddies. Stop the ever growing corruption. Live up to your promises to improve education. (Primary education here is #133 out of #133 in the last competitiveness survey) Then maybe the development gap will shrink.

LF is boring and tiresome with this topic, agree with the 1st comment he should worry about DR first and stop being a mediocre president looking for international attention and ratings.

well theres reason he keeps talkin about hondurs , I bealive he is being pressured by the obama people, to convised the world to demand that zelaya be put back in office. leonel always has a agenda he is a puppet and a man with many faces behind closed doors. for all the good he has done for dr he still manages to dissapoint the public when he makes deals with a dictator like hugo chavez
