Washington.– President Barack Obama on Saturday promised to lower mortgage costs, offer job-creating loans for small businesses, get credit flowing and rein in free-spending executives as he prepares a new road map for spending billions from the second installment of the financial rescue plan.

The White House is deciding how to structure the remaining half of the $700 billion Congress approved last year to save financial institutions and lenders. An announcement was possible as early as this coming week on an approach that would use a range of tools to unfreeze credit, helping families and businesses.

At the end of a week that saw hundreds of thousands of people lose their jobs, Obama also used his Saturday radio and Internet address to tell the nation that "no one bill, no matter how comprehensive, can cure what ails our economy."

Yeah, that's what he was hoooting and hollering all through the campaign....Change...Yes we can!

Like Yogi Bera once said, it's deja vu, all over, again!
Or, like the fellas say: "vu jade"!

Ditty boppin' 'Bama is already on his last leg.
He strides like he's strollin' down his old stomping grounds; With the dip in his hip, and the glide in his stride.
He doesn't fool me; He reminds me of the street huslers who run game on the streets.
Talking bout: Yo, my man, I got this rolex here I give it to you for $100, right quick!

More of the same solutions more money (OPP), while the thieves and hustler's (poli-tricksians) get away with murder.

Snoop Doggy Hussein is throwing his dogs a bone!

Got my mind on my money, and my money on mind. Holler!

Like EPMD and LL would say back in the day: Slow down, baby!

Right on brother, the folk appointed to enforce tax laws can't seem to follow them. One of two things is going on. Either the laws they created is too complicated for people to understand and obey or the people that make them are crooks. I am sick of these people getting off the hook for things which a "Regular Joe" would be jailed. It's disgusting.

TFISKE, when you have some insightful remark about the stimulus package, i will reply to you. this forum is called DOMINICAN TODAY. it is intended for people to discuss issues pertinent to the DominicanRepublic, and occasional extra territorial issues which are pertinent to the outcomes in the island. to my mind , it was not intended as a playground for juvenile pranksters to amuse themselves in the tired old pastime of internet "flaming".worse yet, when those self appointed flamers come from places far away, like Alberta, Canada. those of us in this part of the world have to live here, and the sensible and serious minds on the board are trying to engage in useful discourse. so, here is my suggestion; you have already had your little fun. you are canadian, and have no stake in the fortunes of this country. if you have to engage in childish and destructive pursuits, go destroy canada. leave people here alone, unless you have something useful to say. we welcome any insightful remarks

from you regarding the solutions for the current crisis. might you tell us what you think is the basic cause for the current economic malaise, and offer a solution, other than the immediate introduction of liquidity? for one as vociferous in denouncing the plan, tell us what you suggest, and explain the inherent misguided direction of a stimulus. do not waste our time with red herring issues . give us the TFISKE prescription for the situation. for one who is quick to ridicule and denounce, i am still to hear anything substantive from you. so, i offer you an open opportunity to show us your knowledge. the floor is yours.

you see TFISKE, when one criticises a physician's prescription, he can only base his objection from one of three standpoints
1) the malady was misdiagnosed
2)the prescribed medicine is inappropriate in treating the disease
3)all of the above.

so, TFISKE, i open the floor to you. first, tell us what caused the problem, in the first place. then, tell us what you would suggest as a remedy. i will overlook as an attempt to be humorous, your suggestion to give cars to people. you see, one of the trademarks of adulthood is to be substantial, rather than critical. any fool can sit on the sidelines and regurgitate things he hears in barbershops. real adults learn the subject matter at hand, and make intelligent remarks. i offer you the opportunity, and a subject of this importance should serve to bring out the best in your intellect. go for it!!

Instead of taking 900 billion dollars of the taxpayers' funds, and spreading it around to a bunch of bone heads, why not just cut a check for approximately $5000 or $10,000 dollars for every working man and woman in the United States, with a short note, "Best wishes from Uncle Sam". The economic will rebound and ripple instantly and powerfully throughout all sectors of the U.S. economy. Best of all, we would be putting money into the hands of those who could most wisely use it. Politicians are throwing good cash to corrupt and inefficient financial institutions, and putting us taxpayers deeper in the hole. Oh and by the way, what if millions of tax payers suddenly decided to not pay their taxes in revolt? Can the IRS go after maybe 5 or 6 million of us?

antonio1, there is a simple rule regarding the distribution of income. if you take all the money in the world and divide it up among all the people, the people who had it all, will regain it. so, your solution does not really work. the problem is not only in the distribution of money and assets, though that is part of it. it is far more complex than that.

It would be great to see the government confront the crisis instead of adding to it with more printing, borrowing, and spending. The problem is that they don't have a crisis. We do. While we lose our jobs and homes, they get paid and even get another $93,000 salary increase. Even the stimulus bill they are proposing only adds to the crisis as they spend our money on their pork projects.

Santanar, have you noticed that it is a lot easier to point out the problem than to come up with the solution? While this financial crisis is blamed upon bad mortgage financial practices, the first pin in the bubble was the $$4 dollar gas price. That caused the first missed house payment and from there all hell broke loose. People are spread so thin they have no reserves and Mr. Obama is asking us to bail out the credit card companies. He make me sick.

On Monday, Senate Democrats dropped two controversial spending programs in the Senate economic stimulus bill: $75 million for anti-smoking programs and $400 million for the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases and HIV. But one of the Democratic sources also said, "It's hard to explain when you're in the midst of a crisis why these programs are important. When people are struggling and thinking about their jobs, it's hard to make that connection."Republicans, and even some Democrats, have been pointing to both of these items as prime examples of "excess spending" that doesn't belong in the stimulus bill.

santanar, though the spending package regarding anti smoking might be questionable, research against hiv and sexually transmitted diseases does create work in the health care environment. and work and employment are critical aspects of the intent of the stimulus package. the results could lead to positive medical advances. it is not as though the money was being given away as a prize to the guy who can bake the world's largest coconut macaroon.
