Santo Domingo. - The Dominican archaeologist Kathleen Martinez Wednesday affirmed to have found 27 tombs and 10 mummies, two of them wrapped in gold, during the excavation she conducts in Egypt in search of Cleopatra’s resting place.
Martinez, an official in the Dominican Embassy in Egypt, said she still doesn’t know if among the mummies is Cleopatra’s, but noted that she’s on the trail, as the latest findings have been unearthed since December.
She said the finding shows the real origin of the mummified bodies and confirms that the current ruins of the temple Taposiris Magna, located in the outskirts Alexandria, in Egypt, are where the pharaohs’ remains are buried.
The excavations have taken three years and are the result of Martinez’s most recent theory, stated before the Supreme Egyptian Antiquities Council in 2005. she said six Egyptian archaeologists and 40 workers participate in the digs, and will double the personnel as the result of the findings.
The archaeologist said in the tombs have been tables for offerings, wine and beer jars, 22 currencies with the images of Cleopatra and Alexander the Great and a funeral mask of a man with a fracture on the chin that says has bears a resemblance with the paintings of Marc Antony.

Well done! What it is really nice is the fact that her study and research was sound and credible enough to convince the Egyptians to dig and again, the findings are rewarding her predictions.
Cleopatra the last pharaoh of the Egyptian empire. Perhaps they will be able to confirm if Cleopatra killed herself using a venomous snake.
This is quite a finding.

What great news!!! This is just the kind of news that we need more of. This is the kind of event that instills necessary and real pride, the kind of achievement every young Dominican should aspire to attain. Man, I am so proud, that I feel like beating my "tambora" and running down the boulevard with my Dominican flag up high in the air.
Thank you, miss Martinez! A whole nation stands behind you, overflowing with pride.
BTW, yes, she is very beautiful, and I am proud of that as well.

Hey we surely need some archeology of our own island, but it takes a person making a mark on the bigger, more important stage of Egyptian archeology to inspire more to follow into the field. Even the great and fabled Greeks admitted the debt owed to this oldest and longest lived of the ancient civilizations. Dr. Martinez from the New World shedding light on the old!

Inspiring! Great work! Let's hope her next project will be finding more Taino culture, and that she could influence the government to preserve caves and other historical founding.
I wonder if she could she bring some mommies or Artifacts for Dominican museums?
