Broward County, Florida.- Dominicans who live in Florida are concerned with the cases of swine flu around the world and the possible consequences of its spread, which has sparked a general health alert in the United States.
Last weekend the topic was at the center of conversations where the members of the Dominican diaspora live in Miami and Fort Lauderdale and other areas of Dade and Broward counties, that although swine flu cases are undoubtedly spreading, none have been reported in Florida.
Radio programs for Florida’s Hispanics have placed special interest in alerting the population to prevent contagion, whereas doctors and health personnel urge the residents to observe all rules of hygiene.
In the Dade sector Allapatha, home to thousands of Dominicans, community groups are informing residents through brochures that contain the preventive measures against the swine flu.
According to the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, United States health authorities have verified cases in California, Texas, Ohio, New York and Kansas, prompting all medical centers to remain on maximum alert before the potential virus.
