VATICAN CITY. - Pope Benedict XVI today urged the Dominican Government to “definitively” eradicate corruption and to combat poverty and drug trafficking, and fortify honesty, transparency, judicial independence, social services and the environment.
The Pope, speaking to receive the credentials of the new Dominican ambassador in the Holy See, Victor Grimaldi, recognized the country’s recent accomplishments, "although it still has a long way to go to assure a worthy life for Dominicans and to eradicate poverty, drug trafficking, marginalization and violence."
He said everything that leads to stronger institutions is fundamental to society’s well-being, "which leans on the pillars such as a culture of honesty and transparency, judicial independence, the care and respect of the environment and the strengthening of the social, welfare, sanitary and education services for the entire population.”
"Those steps must be accompanied by a strong determination to eradicate corruption definitively, that entails so much suffering, especially for the poorest and defenseless members of society," said Benedict XVI.
The Pontiff affirmed that the Church "can never be confused with the political community," and instead it converges with the State to promote the dignity of the person and the search for society’s common wellbeing.
Benedicto XVI the Church tends its hands to the authorities to build a freer, more peaceful, just and fraternal civilization.
The Pope encouraged Dominicans to defend human values, stressing the recognition and prevalence of the dignity of the human being, respect for human life from the moment of conception to the natural death and the safeguard of the family as an institution based on marriage between a man and a woman, "because these are irreplaceable and unwavering elements of the social fabric."
Benedict XVI noted that it’s already been more than five centuries since the first mass was celebrated in the American continent, in the Dominican Republic, and praised the missionaries evangelical for their 500 years work in what John Paul II called the continent of hope, from the island of Hispaniola.
The Pontiff invoked the country’s patron saint Virgin of La Altagracia, and Santo Domingo de Guzmán, to bless "that beloved country and the Dominican people so close to the Pontiff’s heart."

Xwill7,
With a paved road it would only take about 30 to 45 minutes tops. With the current conditions of the road it takes almost 2 hours.

The British had the first flying jet plane patent in 1930 by Frank Whittle, Hans von Ohain was granted a patent for his turbojet engine in 1936. The Germans stole the plans from the British and produced the German jet flyer in 1939, and the first fighter jet in 1944-45, too late to matter.
How come are you Europeans love black women so much?
Historically that was a fact as well, the Spaniards, English, French they all love the native women more than the fat, bossy, ugly, white European princesses.

A group of neo-Nazis sought out Hitler, alive and hiding in the Argentine, working as a waiter, to return to the spotlight and lead them in their quest for world domination. After much insistence he replied:
'OK,I will come back' he replied.' but this time - no more Mr. Nice Guy.'.'

The Pope said:
"The DR has a long way to go to assure a worthy life for Dominicans and to eradicate poverty, drug trafficking, marginalization and violence."
Sad part is that the particular information he gets about the DR come from the lower ranking
bishops that reside in DR and send reports to the Vatican.
The word "marginalization" is a more diplomatic term than exploitation or discrimination to certain classes of citizens or "residents".
Make your own conclusions.
Our new ambassador goes to present his credentials and then in turn we get bashed by the pope,

The pope is preaching socialism and complete Government control of the means of production and means of distribution (as well as complete control of prices in the Dominican market). If we implement the Pope's wishes, we'll endup a comunist country!!!

It's a shame the pope has to say this corrup goverment the moral way to govern, they began stolen all the peoples industries and properties, like the sugar mills and the electricity company and nothing happens, now they stolen the mafia's money at paya, and things are happening i think there's not to be a happy ending for the PLD camaradas.

the pope asks dominican governors to eradicate corruption.
i feel so sorry about the pope.the problem is the following:
the corruption in dominican republic start from the top and has an endless bottom, first for any governor to achieve to be a governor has to deal with the narco mafias and tax evaders.
otherwise never will get that position cause those multimillionnaire campagins have to be sponsored by people with a lot of money.once the governor gets the power some how has to return the money invested by the narcomafias.and the way the governors return that money is thru the corruption and let the drugs lords pass the merchandise free thru the country. and the tax evaders just take the merchansise out of taxes.
an faithful example was the last presidential campaign all those bill boards and tv commercials.
do you have any idea how much that cost?
so whoever behind this has to be grant soon or later after the new governor takes over or the existing one could stay on.
