Caracas.– The Venezuelan police have foiled, what they describe as, a potential assassination plot against President Hugo Chavez.

On Friday, the police captured a French national and three Dominicans naming them respectively as the alleged plotter and three of his henchmen.

According to press reports, the Frenchman, Laurent Frederic Bouquet, was seized while trying to flee the country via the northeastern Margarita International Airport following a crackdown on his Caracas house where the police had found a "high-caliber arsenal".

The weapons cache included firearms, grenades, large-scale bullets and high-level explosives like C4 with detonators. The 32-year-old had "military training in addition to being a sharpshooter," said Interior Minister, Tariq El Aissami.

"There is a sector of the irrational opposition in this country that still cherish the idea of spoiling the revolutionary process," he added. The alleged coup leader has been taken to the capital to undergo interrogation.

The Death Penalty for these men, they should be lined up and shot, Enough with all the assassinations.
Hugo Chavez is a democratically elected president, we live in a world where presidents can not lead their countries they way they want to.
The United States and other countries try there best to topple our leaders.

Well, for once I'm proud of the French....But It seems the opposition to the Communist theiving regime would be better off hiring a profesional type outfit to take care of this or perhapse establish a link between the Chavez Regime and the FARC / Cartells once his assosiations with terroist and drug dealers is in the open the gloves can come off, The oil compaies which were robbed would do well to scuttle their opperations before pulling out, why leave the thugs with a set up infrastructure,,,....Assasinating Chavez will only serve to vulcanize the leftist, better he be locked away in a supermax in Ohio to serve as an example to the other despots in the area like Evo and the Santanista Ortega, these developments are a result of our neutered forign policy under our own leftist regime currently in power. Why does the world so Love Obama ? Because they think they can finaly push us around and get away with acting against our interest...

So now the US was behind this too, just like it is behind every assassination plot against the "democratically elected" Castro brothers. We've had people plot to kill a president, but that's ok as long as they are "your leaders". We've also had democratically elected dictators, and if you still can't see where Hugo Chavez is going, then you're blind.

I lived and worked 6 years in Venezuela under the Chavez Government and there must have been an alleged assassination attempt folied every 3 to five weeks during the first year of his presidency. It has become so commonplace that the Venezuelan people do not even listen anymore to this BS. Of all of the alleged plots, NEVER has there been any proof offered nor shown that this has happened. In a couple of days the announcement that a political opponent is corrupt and will serve jail time will put this on the back burner with ther other alleged plots. For the folks that believe this non-news..................

http://www.eluniversal.com/2009/05/08/indice.shtml Fridays edition of El Universal of Caracas, no menton of the plot

http://www.eltiempo.com.ve/noticias/masleidas.asp Most read stories from a paper in Puerto La Cruz, not there either

http://www.talcualdigital.com/index.html Another Caracas newspaper

Funny it only appears in a DR newspaper and not in Venezuela

despite the fact that this story really might not have any legs, it would be a case of deja vu all over, as Yogi Berra once observed. did not Trujillo try to foment a plan to assassinate Romolo Betancourt, the then president of Venezuela?

Well look at it this way, it took everyones mind off the fact that at the same time he was using the military to do some more nationalization of the oil production.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/09/world/americas/09venez.html

Lots of stuff in the penthouse wonder how they got it all into the country, or where they bought it there. scopes, reloaders, C4, detenators. thousands of rounds of ammo, military uniforms. hell were they trying for Chaves, or a revolution?

So, when someone is caught with fireams and explosive it automatically becomes an attempt against a President. Where are the evidence demonstrating that these individual where plotting to assassinate Chavez --- notes, conversations and so on. Who pays them and to what group do they claimed they belong.
