Port-au-Prince.– Haitian
police used tear gas to break up a protest near the national palace where
demonstrators were calling for a higher minimum wage.
Riot police also used their
batons and shields Friday to block the group of about 150 protesters from
reaching the palace.
The protesters say they are
an "alternative May 1" movement and called for raising the minimum
wage from about $1.80 a day to $10 a day. Eighty percent of the Caribbean
nation's people live on less than $2 a day and unemployment is rampant.
The group also called for
the departure of a 9,000-member U.N. peacekeeping force they denounced as
occupiers.
Hundreds of farmers
participated in a nearby government-sponsored "agriculture day" rally
and did not join the protest.

What? $1.80 is not enough a day, that's a shame the government thinks, $2 dollars a day should be enough to feed your family, while they are having steak everyday, their government officials should be taken outside, one by one, and stoned.

This is one of the millions of reason that I believe in a God, humans cannot govern humans, for the simple reason that humans do not care about others, only themselves, so this planet will always be the same, no matter what we try to do or say... I will never in my live thrust people, specially politicians. God help us all.

You are 100% correct, but these kind of problems occur when you have banana republics like Haiti, lack of education, and so on, and this will never change, it is rooted deep in the culture of each country, but the problem in a lot of counties like this is that nobody says anything, they say, what can we do, but they don't understand that the Government is for the people, not the Government for themselves. But remember something, the Government does not want the majority of the population to be well educated, they need enough of the population lacking education so they can have enough slave labor for the country.

The problems with the wage pay is not only the government but also the private business sectors that cares only for profits. Paid raises means the rising of basic food needs, which means that the situations remains the same and poverty increases. Here in the U.S. the same situation exist only different is the people can get such things a public assitance, including food stamp and so on. Creating beggars and homelesness while the minumum wage remains the same. Government is just a word ---- used in the general terms -- Politicians are individuals representing their own interests and the interest of those they select -- they played the masses and the masses love to be played by them. At the end they run to religion for a dose of hope to be found when they are no longer on this earth --- poor here -- rich in heaven ----- what ignorance ------

Hvargas , he is no fool who looses what he cant keep to gain what he can never loose . What happens when one of these Jed Clamped Haitan farmers strikes gold behind his tent ? He has everything his peso can buy and finds himself like the rich young ruler in the bible saying '' what do I lack ''? Jesus Christ himself chose to be born and raised in poverty and he lived his life and ministry before an audience not much better off than these Haitians ,,( under Roman occupation). The poor ignorant ones that run to God for a dose of hope which you refer to are the truly rich ..Ive met more miserable millionaires IN THE U.S than I have bawling beggars living in The STREETS OFTHE D.R.. It amazes me how those with so little can smile and enjoy life the way they do .God himself does not shy away from the issues of beggars and poverty in his word , and allows it to exist ..If you can offer me or any other ignorant CHRISTIAN (rich or poor) a greater hope than GODS PROMISES ,IM ALL EARS....?

Someone has to be poor and someone has to be rich. I live in new York and there is a pay freeze at my job. I guess I should protest.

Bailarin .... Jesus was not a poor men and the Jews of his time had a class structures in which most were not poor even though they were occupied by the Romans. Yes, there are those that denied self-responsibilities and rather be beggars while others place their false hope on their knees. My oldest son will graduate this year from the Universidad Central del Ested ( UCE ), my yougets son attends a private school. I'm building my house and next to it I build and equipped a Beauty Salon that my wife runs. I sent my wife $US1000.00 twice a month. I live in the streets of New York and I sleep in the TRAIN. I work most of the time seven days a week and my job requires heavy lifting. Since I'm on the streets I get to see the beggars and the homeless, I will never submit myself to begging but some make a living of it while others feel society should support them and give it to them for free. The church reenforces these ills by providing for them.

My friend , you must be subscribing to Oprahs new age philosophy ..What church do you go to( if you have ever attended one) that supports your ridiculous generalizations and what history books to you read to get your facts about a Jesus whose lineage can be traced back to Trump and Rockafellar ? Not in my church !

I don't believe in any so called God nor do I believe in Religion. To me Religion and Politicians are the destroyers of life and History has countless of pages to demonstrated it. TAKE RESPONSIBILITIES IN YOUR LIFE AND PLACE EFFORTS IN YOUR DESTINY TO DEPEND ON YOURSELF AND TO SUPPORT YOUR LOVE ONES.
