Haitians, can only fight themselves, even when there was a Haitian army. The so called Haitian Revolution, was a war between Malaria and the French Army. I am truly sadden by all the hatred from both countries. As an American with descendants from both countries I am ashamed with violence between the two countries. Their is a lot of misinformation in this posting. Like mention above each country needs to respect each other in order to reduce the animosity towards each other.
For the people who think on nation is better than each other are fools. Each country is a third world country fighting to keep their heads above each to protect and feed their people. Currently Dr is more financially and politically stable which is great for them. Haiti has been suffering hard for the past 25 years and are fighting for a political presence to world.
Both countries need to first understand each other to reduce the violence between each other. We do not know the full story behind the recent killings between both countries. It does not matter whether its an Haitian or a Dominican life has been taken but an INDIVIDUAL.

1. Dominicans are not descendents of North Africans. Almost all slaves came to the Americas from West and Central Africa. You could go to your local library or take a visiti to Goree Island off Senegal and visit the door of no return. The North African theory came in during the Trujillo period when he wanted differiate DR from Haiti and erase all African heritage from DR.

I know all about the Haitian situation. We have them in our country too selling merchanise and ice cream. However, we don't hate them. We understand their plight and pray that somehow their situation improves. It is the DR's govt. responsiblity with the help of other Caribbean neighbors to put pressure on the international organisations to make sure that Haiti's has a stable govt. that improves the lives of its people. Haiti has always been a majority black African nation, the Dominican Republic in it's colonial history was a majority white and mixed nation. That's why most Dominicans today are mixed although theres still a large white population in the country, and a black population that also has it's roots in other caribbean islands due to the hiring for work in the sugar cane industry, including Haitians in the past century and presently today. First of all, I was not talking about staples. I am talking about the way dominicans prepare and cook their dishes. I am sure that I can find similar dishes like platano con salami, mofongo, mangu, mondongo, etc in other Afro-Latin communities in the Americas (Brazil,Cuba, Puerto Rico, Panama, Venezuela (mi patria), Colombia, etc). The only difference is that we are aware of our foods African, Native Indian, and European origins.
All Caribean islands had slaves and the foods throughout the Caribbean have a strong African influence with a touch of European (French, Spanish, British, and Dutch) and a dash of Arawak/Taino/Carib flavor.

First of all, I was not talking about staples. I am talking about the way dominicans prepare and cook their dishes. I am sure that I can find similar dishes like platano con salami, mofongo, mangu, mondongo, etc in other Afro-Latin communities in the Americas (Brazil,Cuba, Puerto Rico, Panama, Venezuela (mi patria), Colombia, etc). The only difference is that we are aware of our foods African, Native Indian, and European origins.
All Caribean islands had slaves and the foods throughout the Caribbean have a strong African influence with a touch of European (French, Spanish, British, and Dutch) and a dash of Arawak/Taino/Carib flavor.
BTW, I came to this site, because my girlfriend/fiance who is dominican is usually on this site. I was just checking this site out and was disturbed by the hatred, called for killing of Haitians on this site.
