NEW YORK.- Chanting “four more years” and Bloomberg, Bloomberg! at the top of their lungs, hundreds  of Dominicans gathered  inside and outside the New York Mayor’s reelection campaign office, to support his bid for an unprecedented third term.

Bloomberg arrived at 171 St. and between Audubon and St. Nicholas avenues began a brief walking tour, entering several businesses including a bakery and a warehouse, where owners and customers reacted surprised at the sudden presence of the U.S.’ wealthiest politician.

He spoke some words in Spanish for a few minutes and greeted several people inside and outside the businesses, and spoke English with the youngsters.

The owner of the warehouse handed Bloomberg a letter which he slipped carefully in his jacket.

Rafael Figuereo, of the group Dominicans for Ciywide Political Participation, began the re-election rally, and speaking in English, noted the mayor’s accomplishments, for which the Dominican community supports Bloomberg for a third term.

If there are those who don’t believe Bloomberg is the best mayor in New York’s history, they're mistaken,” Figuereo said.

New York City is fortunate to have a person who is among the 20 richest people in the world as their mayor. He earned this money through intelligence, hard work and good investing. His decisions are always based on what is best for his city, with no concern for personal gain. Look at what he has done for the education system. If he were to become our President our nation would someday be the paradise that is within its potential. Unfortunately that will never happen, and instead we will be stuck with President Crooked or President More Crooked, forever.

Of course he needs to brown nose Dominicans and visit regular people. Like most MLB teams need that Dominican bat in the line up... he needs the Dominican vote in NYC to win

xwill7,
I don't think you have a grasp on NY politics, if Mayor Bloomberg did not recieve 1 single vote Dominican vote, he would win in a landslide. Please note that only Dominicans that are US citizens can vote and like all other ethnic groups of Latin descent, hardly any make it out to the voting booth.

Obama carried NYC so why should I expect them to wise up?
Vote for TAXES
Vote for the Nanny State.
Vote for fear.

devin,
Even if the Dominicans can not vote they still add that extra boost for his campain. We all know that many voters vote for the most popular one... the one that people are talking about.

xwill,
That is a good point, no doubt. I'm just saying that in this case, with this Mayor, the outcome is not in question, there is not even a remotely viable contender.

warehouse? do they mean the 'social club' halfway down that block?

a week ago a Spanish language newspaper I had NEVER seen on any stands was suddenly in every shop .... of course Mr. Bloomberg was on the cover, the editors had endorsed him, and his ads filled the prime real estate inside the paper. the next week the paper was nowhere to be seen, back to it's meaningless circulation... but surely a nice windfall for the publishers.

it is true this election is not in doubt . it is almost in bad taste for M. Bloomberg to be spending all these ad dollars, but hey I guess it spreads the wealth.

i'll tell you what's effed up with Bloomberg .He quietly somehow set about the task to change the 2 term law and did it! And now he does not seem to have an opponent. He keeps going back and forth democrat/republican/democrat/ republican. I am glad he is liberal, but he is a fiscal conservative. he is all about upgrading NY.The reason middle income families are still here is because alot live in rent stabilized housing.that means that if you live in a building with 6 units or more built before 1980 or so , your rent only goes up a certain percent. for a 1 or 2 year lease. every year the mayor and lanlords and tenants have a town hall type meeting to decide the percentage. When these rents get to 2000.a month. they then become free market, they are de-regulated.And people get priced out of their homes
.And this year, the increases are 3% for 1 year and 6% for 2 year. sounds fair right? aaaahhh but this year THERE IS A NEW PLAN.. for rents paying under 1000. there is a minimum increase

of 30. for the 1 year and 60 dollars for the 2 year,. that means, if say you pay 800. a month. 8time 3=24, old way your increase would be 24 dollars for the next year, but this year it will be 30.for 2 year it will be a 60 dollar increase instead of 48. People do 2 year leases because it can be 4% and 8 % the next year you never know..

ps- this will be a much bigger increase to someone paying 600 a month, (though there are not many 600 dollar apartments in the five boroughs). 630 when it should have been 618.

bloomberg is one of the wealthiest people in tthe world and one of the only one to have recognized the dominican achievements in thee big apple on national TV,. He deserves our respect and it would be smart to have him on our side as he could one day become president.
