Miami.- Tropical Depression two has intensified into the first named storm of the 2009 hurricane season and poses the biggest threat to those residents in the islands of the Leeward Islands chain.
This set of islands is located east of Puerto Rico and consists of some of the following well-known islands: Antigua, Barbuda, the Virgin Islands, and Guadeloupe.
The residents of these islands will likely face most of the wrath of Tropical Storm Ana. The storm could cause destruction of homes and businesses and may down power lines. The storm could result in very heavy rains that could lead to flooding.
The storm was moving west near 16 mph. This general motion is expected to continue for the next few days, with an increase in forward speed.
The National Hurricane Center, with headquarters in Miami, is in fact monitoring two other areas of interest, one of which has a high chance of developing into Tropical Depression 3.
