New York.– U.S. House Ways and Means Chairman Charles Rangel initially did not report more than $660,000 in assets and tens of thousands in income for 2007, records show.
Rangel, D-N.Y., has filed an amended disclosure that includes the correct figures, Roll Call reported Tuesday night.
The 2007 form listed assets of $516,000 to $1,316,000, but the
amended disclosure lists of $1.028 million to $2.495 million, Roll Call
said.
The initial filing excluded a Congressional Federal Credit Union
checking account worth more than $250,000 and an investment fund
account worth more than $250,000, the amended report indicated. Members of Congress are allowed to report asset values within broad ranges, Roll Call said.
Initially, Rangel reported 2007 investments yielded between $6,511
and $17,950 in dividends, capital gains and rental income, Roll Call
said. In the revised filing, the range increased those figures to
between $29,220 and $81,200.
The original filing also reported no rental income from Rangel's
Punta Cana Villa in the Dominican Republic, while the revised report
said he earned at least $5,001 and up to $15,000.

Rangel is worthless and shameless. I cannnot understand how he keeps getting elected. I guess I see him a bit differently than most Nyers. I have carefully listened to him over the past few months to give him the benefit of doubt,, only to determine he is a Untruthful, Lost POS. The government would be better off without his fat a$$. My opinion only !

While I don't care about Rangel, I think this is bullsh#$!!!!! Why if I have a villa in Casa de Campos do I have to pay taxes or taxes on rental income to the U.S. Government especially now that they are bankrupt and looking for money money money!! If any money should be paid, it should go to the Dominican Government not U.S.!!! It is just like the Swiss bank thing now. For years, Americans put money in Swiss bank system to not pay taxes and nobody did anything about it but now that Uncle Sam is bankrupt now they threaten to sue Swizerland if they don't hand over the approx. 4000 names-people so Swizerland scared of the almighty buckles in and releases the names!! Now, U.S. is going to charge them approx. 40% on the earnings over there or they are going to jail!! Wake up people, this is only about money, money and money as the empire continues to crumble and will owe China their culo when all said and done!!!!!

I have never liked this guy, after hearing many of his viewpoints and arguments, it became clear he lacked logic. typical politician they are all the same. The differences are just determined by how well they mask their true selves while in public.

Personally, I do not care for Mr. Rangel who hails from my state, NY. Like most politicians from this state, he is very liberal and always blaming the hard working class, on whose back this country rides.
These men are fundamentally charlatans and nearly worthless.
cejay,
On issue of taxes, however, I'll like to offer a little defense for the US gov. As a citizen, gov. ptrotection would extend far beyond its shores. For instance, during the 1965 revolution, one of the reasons for the US intervention was safeguarding its citizens living in DR. You may agree or disagree with motive, but were you one of the affected parties, perhaps you would have been grateful.
Such guarantees to citizens cost money, and it must come from somewhere and, in US case, it comes from tax revenues and the general budget. So, you see, taxes can sometime serve some good.
From: United States, NY/NJ
glomarexplorer IMO you are very very far from the true reason for the U.S intervening during the 1965 revolution. The main reason they intervened was as a powerplay. They feared that losing another country in their backyard to communism would make them look like fools and cause a domino effect on all the latin american countries. The U.S. does not send in soldiers to any specific country to intervene everytime its citizens are in danger it simply uses its embassies to relay the msg to its nationals to have them leave due to unsafe conditions etc. The U.S. does not act unless it serves a key interest of theirs which may be either politically, financially or both. Big brother isn't as caring as you may think.
From: United States, Fresh Water Paradise-NY Finger Lakes
Analyst,
I am not telling you the reasons why US intervened. I am telling you the reasons we were told and which are chronicled in history books and news articles of the day. Big difference!
The US will intervene in its citizens behalf, however, evidence of which was the "Maersk Alabama", a very successful rescue mission in high seas and well-worth risks.
While US is not as feared as it once was [liberals have our resolve, turned us flower-carrying soldiers with rainbow flags and overt peaceniks], I find it reassuring to think that this gov. is willing to go to great lengths to safeguard citizens wherever they might be. This fact almost makes paying taxes tolerable!

Maybe we should blame both Rangel & Obama for record tax deficits (started w/ Reagan) & declining economy (low tax revenues & more spending - Bush continued). Remember, the last balanced budgets were Clinton & Kennedy.
Now, it's too soon to making the BLACK GUY our scapegoat. WE recall past YEARS of economic decline, job losses, record bankruptcies & how EVEN conservative voters also lost their homes to foreclosure ETC ...But their less Gov move opened the door for the Madeoffs.
Ok, Rangel is either dishonest or needs to get a better accountant (since clearly he does not do his own taxes). But, NY people love Rangel and if he ran today against all of us then we know who'd win!

Funny when one enlists in the U.S Military or become a Naturalized U.S Citizen one takes a SWORN OATH to uphold the U.S Constitution, is it then to much to ask for that ALL U.S elected Officials follow there Sworn Oath to the letter.
Oh'Blama also took one when He was sworn in as President, and get this.....He used Abraham Lincoln's old Bible, why ?
Yesterday Oh'Blama's newly elected Czar [ FCC added post ] made a comment / statement about Hugo-a-Go Go's Venezuela regarding suppressing the Media and Freedom of Speech.

When you're a powerful Congressman and working diligently to increase tax rates to pay for President Obama's health-care plan, we suppose it's easy to lose track of one of your checking accounts. That would be the one at the federal credit union with a balance somewhere between $250,001 and maybe as high as $500,000. And when you're crunched for time and pulling together bills to pass in a rush, we guess, too, that you might overlook several other investment accounts, even if some of them are sizable, such as the ones Mr. Rangel missed at JP Morgan, Merrill Lynch, Oppenheimer and BlackRock.
Oh, and those vacant properties in Glassboro, in southern Jersey? Everybody in Manhattan tries not to think much about New Jersey, so those lots and their as-much-as-$15,000 value must also have slipped down the memory hole. (The New York Post reported yesterday that Mr. Rangel failed to pay property taxes for two of the lots, according to the county clerk's office.)
