Sen. Edward Kennedy

Santo Domingo.– Dominican President Leonel Fernandez sent a message with his condolences to the family of Senator Edward "Ted" Kennedy, who died Tuesday, aged 77, due to brain cancer.

"I extend my condolences to North Americans, the influential Kennedy family and the US Congress for the loss of a man who became an icon for the most progressive ideas of change in his country," Fernandez stated.

Senator Edward Kennedy was the liberal lion of US politics, a towering, controversial figure whose death ends an era when his family appeared born to rule. Kennedy in many ways epitomized the wealthy, Ivy League-educated elite of the United States, a status detractors said enabled him to dodge fallout from scandals in his personal

Yet he also suffered extraordinary tragedy and what some came to call the curse of the Kennedy’s, with the assassinations of older brother president John F. Kennedy in November 1963 and another elder sibling, the senator and former attorney general Robert Kennedy, in June 1968.

Many thought Kennedy destined for the highest office, but his White House hopes were dashed after his name was tainted by scandal, drinking problems and a messy divorce.

The worst scandal occurred in 1969, when he drove off a bridge at Chappaquiddick in Massachusetts, killing a female companion –Mary Jo Kopechne– before fleeing the scene of the accident. The scandal crippled his presidential hopes and he subsequently lost the Democratic party nomination to incumbent Jimmy Carter in the 1980 election.

say what you will, it is a nice gesture LF. if only we can learn from ted k.

ted K really helped out the workers (OSHA) and immigrants; kudos to him. born rich but always helping the poor, looked out for the little guy. travelled to africa to help the poor. he personifies the good american. he knew that those that are born with alot have that much more that they must give back and he spent his life doing it. battled thru his problems and won.

Edward Kennedy was one of those few individuals who seems to have developed a good character late in their lives. Who knows what he could have achieved had he developed those traits earlier. Maybe his flawed character allowed him to live a long life (longer than his brothers) George Wallace, the late govenor of Alabama, self proclaimed white supremist and staunch defender of segregation, after an assasination attempt, relized the error of his earlier beliefs, living out the rest of his life as a "good "man. I suppose its better to have good character late in life than to never have it at all.

I am a conservative, yet I find myself respecting this obviously liberal man as a great American.

He was able to reach across the isle, negotiate necessary compromises. Many of his friends were staunch political opponents.

Much has been stated about the measure of a man. However, I opine that a measure of a man carries infinitely heavier weight when your opponents, rather than your friends, have great things to say about your integrity and character-Chappaquiddck aside! On this basis, Ted was a giant!

Mr. Kennedy, please rest in peace...you've left a great imprint and legacy in the American way of life. Your unselfish devotion to your supporters ought to be commended, irrespective of your political leanings.

I am grateful for your service.

RIP.

thanks, AnthonyC, for not disappointing me. i predicted that either yourself or CabareteWilliam would make some really loathsome remark. since leopards rarely change their spots, i see where you could not find it within your abilities to be decent. why am i not surprised? as my boys from Brooklyn would say YOU CAN´T SHINE SH .T.

Etiennc01,

Thank you, I except.

The parts that gets me is why do WE Humans celebrate and Honor other Humans when they pass, I say lets really Honor Humans while there still alive by going one step above and beyond if WE fell so strong why not join there cause, in other words pick up the ball and finish the unfinished.

I got hammered over true comments I made regarding the death of Michael Jackson to the point of being labeled a Racist by many American Blacks.

We all come into this World the same way and will leave this World the same way. The question is what WE do in the middle is what really counts.

Years ago I had a friend who worked at the L.A County Coroners Office and told me something I'll never forget...."You know we get hundreds Daily Rich, Poor, Famous, Very young & old plus many John & Janes Does and no matter what We treat all the same with the same Respect and Dignity deserving of any Human".

Ted K. in life over came many obstacles.

Take care.

some people holds public offices all their lives and they are remembered as sadistic tyrans ,conniving, megalomaniacs, bigots, delusionals, racists, con artists, vain , arrogants, cowards divisive, pedant, warmongers, idiots, fanatics, intolerants, subhuman primates and ignorants.
You catch my drift ?

Some other people (e.g.Ted Kennedy, Leonel Fernandez ) are remembered a decent and progressive human beings

You need to stop listening to rush limp baugh and watch foxnews so you can be fair and objective,
All you remember of Ted Kennedy is that he was a good swimmer, how short-sighted !

The man did alot of good, he had his dark side but thats all part of life everybody has there good side and bad sides. his brothers were the best presidents america might of have , if it was not for the freemasons and illumaniti control federal reserve banks who had them killed. the man had alot of tragedies in his life I would have problem with achohol too if my brother or sister was brutally murder.

Etiennc01,
No offense intended.
How about.......
Nobody but Fred Flintstone lives near or works at a rock quarry.
We don't stone People any more.
I for one see in my opinion a wrong I'll let them know it, I'm NOT PERFECT BY FAR yet as a Christian I find myself surrounded by non-believing Human beings, I say let their Conscience and their belief in GOD guide them, Faith will do the rest.
Life is short, WE are all sinners INCLUDING MYSELF and fall short.
For fear of being labeled a stone thrower I wonder how many life encounters / chances one gives up ?
Life is too short......."No one, not one is Guaranteed Tomorrow"
Take care.
