SANTO DOMINGO. - The Treasury Minister today announced Venezuela’s dispatch of one million gallons of fuel to Dominican Republic yesterday, to be shipped to Haiti as a donation to help in the wake of the earthquake.
Vicente Bengoa said 546,000 gallons of gasoline, 446,000 of diesel and 8,000 of avtur will arrive in the Dominican Refinery’s (Refidomsa) deposits on Thursday, to be dispatched to Haiti from there.
Moreover the official said 100,000 gallons of avtur have been allocated to the Dominican Armed Forces for the relief work in Port-au-Prince so far, and 20,000 more have been donated directly to Haiti.
He said the companies Shell, Island, Sunnix, Esso, Dipsa and Petronam have also donated 60,000 gallons of diesel.
As to other aid, Bengoa said 124 million has been allocated to the Public Health Ministry for emergency vaccination and expenses to attend the thousands of injured Haitians in hospitals along the border and the capital.

Even though, I admire the goodwill of Chavez, however, I crinched a little when I saw this picture. As some of you indicated, you have two sides here trying to capitalize (politically) on this current situation and try to create their own little sphere of influence in Haiti.
Chavez had already started the process of infiltrating Haiti by donating and buiilding their infrastructure, i.e. roads, airport, refineries, ports and medical facilties. Haiti received the biggest capital aid from Venezuela in the past years.

The class is called Begging 101. Blame other nations for they had done so many centuries ago. For the Haitians is France, they are to blame for what is taking place there and are also responsible. This is according to comentaries made and published. Next, D.R. will blame Spain for its problems. Its much better to place blame and not assumed responsibilities, this is a nation that has no Pride or self worth it rather be the BEGGING NATION is much better and takes less efforts. Everyone just say oh poor people, the poorest nation on the planet. They can´ t do for themself so here comes the world to the rescued, first lets get the U.N. play a lesser role and let the real experts handle Haiti, the U.S. will rebuilt it. When the dust is gone, it will be back to business as usual the rich get what they had loss and the rest get to make cookies DE LODO. The natural resources of a country belongs to each and everyone who is a a native citizen of say such a country. I´m a dominican and I´m proud to be one who is not a begger. The politicians of D.R. had sold D.R. mainly to the U.S., in the first place they lean towards the will of the U.S. and yes if D.R. sees itself in a tragedy just as Haiti they will go out begging. They do this without a crisis or a tragedy but its done very sutle. They have betrayed the D.R. . The fortunate thing about the D.R. is that the remittance allows for many dominicans like my family to receive money and thus are able to support themselves no thanks to D.R. government. I send this money to my family like many others do. What has the government of Haiti done for Haiti and what has the government of D.R. done for D.R.? This are people that enjoy begging like the term " esta pegao " and " ese es un lanbon ". Is just another form of begging. Have some dignity.

Everyone is more tame now, and GC is not as provocative anymore. Josean is still willing to take anyone on, on any subject, anywhere and any time. Anything he writes about is very likely to elicit a response. Dr. Strangelove,
Thank you for all the much UNDESERVED accolades towards my person.
I admire people’s intellect, and their are many here at DT that have great ones, myself excluded of course.
However, what I admire the most in any human being is TOLERANCE of others and their opinions. I despise censorship of any kind, although I feel people should refrain from profanity, especially to attack others when they have run out of intellectual gas to critique or defend their positions.
I also believe that the right we have to express our opinions gives us the obligation to be factual in our retorts. I have a real problem with rectally generated arguments or “facts!”
Finally, I like people to be transparent and not be afraid to stand for something or someone. If a person really feels LIE-onel Fernandez is God’s gift to humanity then step up to the plate and say so, that is their right and I will defend that right to the death if necessary.

You guys must remain provocative and always speak your minds. We don't want people just accepting the status quo and bringing on air of complacency. We already have way, way too much of that in DR. You need to raise issues-even if controversial, and shake people out of their comfort zone and make them think. Only when the majority has become free thinkers will be be able to effect meaningful change in our homeland.
Anyway, keep on doing what you've been doing.....forum would be extremely dull without people like you and the other notable ones.

I miss the good old days, when Josean and GC would go at it for days arguing points on featured articles. Man, I read DT for nearly a year, before I could muster courage to join in. Their arguments were actually more interesting than featured stories. These guys are DT royalty and, as such, should probably enjoy more leeway than rest of us. I really don't want to see GC, or his latest incarnation, leave the forum. As for Josean, he is indispensable. Dr. Dread is another personality who should be accorded similar privileges.
Everyone is more tame now, and GC is not as provocative anymore. Josean is still willing to take anyone on, on any subject, anywhere and any time. Anything he writes about is very likely to elicit a response. I've seen many amateurs take him on over the years, myself included, only to watch them disappear into the sunset and never to be heard from again. You can't argue with Josean. He has all the facts. Really, he really does.

PS
GC and Dr. Dread truly are meritorious of you accolades and I am sure they would agree with me that You ain't no slouch yourself, Sir!
Josean,
No, you are the people who keep DT's engine going. Without you guys, and the occasional visit from Honorable Generoso, interest in forum would clearly wane.

You see Banistan how your association with me has raised your worth!
An' taking home a ‘load' with manly pride;
My poor feet began to stutter, so I lay down in the gutter,
And a pig came up an' lay down by my side;
Then we sang ‘It's all fair weather when good fellows get together,'
Till a lady passing by was heard to say:
‘You can tell a man who "boozes" by the company he chooses'
And the pig got up and slowly walked away. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOWYNJTFsvs
Great Blutarsky,
No need to mention it.
