TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras. - Honduras president elect Porfirio Lobo and several ex presidential candidates traveled to Dominican Republic today, to discuss their country’s political crisis with president Leonel Fernandez, placing the Caribbean nation again at the center of the all but forgotten crisis.

A Lobo spokesman confirmed that former candidates in the November 29 elections Elvin Santos, of the ruling Liberal party, the Christian Democrat Felícito Avila, and the Social Democrat Bernardo Martinez, as well as Tegucigalpa mayor Ricardo Alvarez boarded of a private a flight from Tegucigalpa, where they are expected to return today.

"We’ve been in permanent communication, mainly with president Leonel Fernandez, of Dominican Republic, whom despite the crisis which the sister nation of Haiti faces (from the recent earthquake), has been very attentive on Honduras" said Lobo on Monday, who’ll assume January 27.

He said the Dominican leader "has been very collaborative with us, looking for us to exist peacefully with the international community."

Zelaya is history ,and bad history at that ,,,his term was due to expire on next Wednesday so he is of no importance and the timing of Porfirio Lobo to come here is very poor ..and Leonel played this Honduras problem very poorly having backed Zelaya even when it was obvious he had no chance and was just a trouble maker .

Leonel should start working on his country first before getting envolve in international arena. For Good sake DR is big mess. The corruption has gone to the limit, it not a safe place anymore. I'm so sad that my country is at the stage where you can not trust a police on the street.

20 years ago if you had a problem with the police you give them 5 pesos and the problem was solved, but now days they shoot dead and then make a report saying that you were a criminal.

Caballero,

Many people are not thinking about what happens the day after the Great Haitian Devastation. Below you will see a list of the Caribbean and their populations. Note, that the total population of Haiti and the Dominican Republic is greater than those of the other 8 territories listed! And per 2007 UN data, Haiti's population make-up had 6.7 million people under the age of 18. This represents a population Time Bomb that will grow more urgent as a consequence of the great tragedy the world is witnessing today. In ten years we may be faced with famine and mass violence on a par with 1980s East Africa. More people will live in Hispaniola than all the other islands combined! Think about that for a minute. Not a pretty picture. And some people are worried about corruption!

This is the central issue on the agenda of any true thinking Dominican.

Cuba=11.2 m PR=4 m Jam=2.7m T&T=1.3m Guad=.4M Mart=.4m Bah=.3M Barb=.28m =>20.07million

Haiti = 10.03M + DR = 10.09=>20.12M

All made very interesting and informative comments at the start of this posting, all I can say is.......

The DR needs a 100% Prez. with back bone.......not a world class leader !

The DR has enough of it's own problems not to add the Haitian noble cause.

Josean,

It not so difficult to see my friend. What are the facts. Argue them not the person. According to JimHarrinton that's what got you sent packing the last time, personal attacks are not wise. Argue the merits of the facts.
