Bogota. - Firemen from Colombia helped by French and Haitian rescuers pulled a 22 day-old infant from the clutches of death after having been pinned for one week by the rubble in the Haiti coastal city Jacmel, a Bogota Fire Department official told the AP Wednesday .
Bogota Fire Corp official William Tovar provided the information via telephone from Jacmel, where he forms part of the rescue efforts in Haiti, where several stories of miracles have emerged.
“Yesterday (Tuesday) luckily, in a joint operation with firefighters from France and Jacmel, we managed to rescue a baby born 22 days ago,” Tovar said to AP.
“She lasted an entire week (under the rubble). We have medical personnel here who undertook the procedure to resuscitate the baby, with the result that today she’s in a hospital, completely stable,” he added.
No further details were immediately provided from Jacmel, on Haiti´s Caribbean coast, 40 kilometers southwest of Port-au-Prince.
