Havana.– Fidel Castro is questioning why the U.S. and other countries sent soldiers to quake-devastated Haiti, saying military presence hindered international cooperation, the former Cuban president writes in an opinion column in state-controlled media.

According to Castro, "without anyone knowing how or why," Washington dispatched troops "to occupy Haitian territory," and other nations followed suit.

Castro said neither the U.N nor the U.S. "has offered an explanation to the people of the world." He pointed out that several governments complained that the troops kept them from landing aid flights and called on the U.N. to investigate.

Bolivian President Evo Morales, a Castro ally, is seeking a U.N. condemnation of what he called the U.S. occupation of Haiti.

Well Fidel.....

The US Government needs a "Bagman" to make all those pay-offs payments.

Because when it's revealed that those building had very little or no Rebar in them...

Somebody going to have to pay them to keep their mouths shut....

I have question also about the construction practices used....

TRY READING THE TRUTH ....

http://www.eqclearinghouse.org/20100112-haiti/category/structural

A prevalent form of earthquake-resisting structural system used in Haiti, especially for housing, is a particular system used extensively in Europe and is called ?

confined masonry?.

(also view www.confinedmasonry.org).

In Haiti the blocks are mainly of concrete vertical cell units 6? thick (and 8? high x 16? long). I

do not recall seeing rebar larger than ½? in the debris of any of the housing structures. The typical Haitian house has a concrete roof, probably for hurricane resistance.

Hrmm well for starters since the ports and the airport are destroyed and the President of Haiti had fled to the DR who was going to bring the airport back into operation?

The US did not immediately send troops in fact they took several days to get troops into Haiti so any other country or the UN could have positioned themselves at the airport first if they had the ability to do so. They just didn't do it. Somebody needed to help.

Mr Castro why didn't you send people with the ability to repair the airport first if you were so interested?

Military troops were and are still needed to provide security for the aid workers trying to get care, food, and water to the people who need it.

The US cannot send normal contractors to perform the cleanup and security which will be required at the early stages of this disaster military equipment and personnel must be used at the early stages.

I don't see anyone complaining about a military hospital ship being there now.

PORT-AU-PRINCE -- A new hospital in the Turgeau neighborhood dissolved into a pancaked stack of concrete floor slabs surrounded by broken toilets. The shell of a nearby high school rested atop its crumbled first floor.

But just across Avenue Jean Paul II, a gleaming aluminum-and-glass skyscraper escaped almost unscathed.

``You don't call the structural engineer in at the end of your drawing. You start with the structural engineer before it's built,' said architect Christian Dutour, pleased after surveying his 12-story building. ``Otherwise, it doesn't work.''

I didn't see any Cubans or Venezuelans rushing to give aid. They just like to stand on the sidelines, watch other people do the hard work and then whine about it. Thankfully we won't have to listen to the reason for the substandard living conditions in Cuba for much longer. Castro is probably jealous that, with a little bit of improvement, Haiti will have a better standard of living than his hell hole.

Any one want to make a bet? I bet that if a natural disaster, such as the earthquake that destroyed the Haitian capital or the tsunami of 4 years ago in Indonesia, were to hit Cuba, Fidel would either A) be begging the US for help, OR, B) criticizing the US for not helping. Another left wing hypocrite.

Castro is out to lunch on this issue.
1. There is no Haitian government at this time.
2. Aid has to be delivered in an orderly fashion.
3. Without a government chaos rules.
4. The US took charge to establish order.
5. There are no overnight solutions after something like this.
6. Speaking of the airport, a system of air traffic control needs to be put in place in order to establish an (here's that word again) orderly flow.
7. Traffic is routinely turned away during peak periods at all the major airports of the world so being turned away here should not come as a surprise.
8. The magnitude of this disaster requires a "magnitude" of aid which the US can provide.
9. Permanent solutions can only be contemplated after the "emergency" phase of this disaster passes.
10. Many more will die in the near term.
11. All countries have a role to play in helping Haiti now.
12. Remember the Munroe Doctrine.

Outstanding......

Castro and Hugo-a-go-go are probably hoping for there own natural disaster, but.....on the other hand there both still trying to figure out who would come to their aide.

I GET IT NOW........both can only give so little which its in its self a reality check of their failed Socialistic system, and in DOING SO WOULD ALSO DEPRIVE THEIR OWN PEOPLE OF THE BASICS.

I understand every day is a Haiti type situation in both Country's minus the shaking, Destruction and dead. Yet they still complain about those Nations giving.

The 1st paragraph repeats that Cuban doctors in Haiti will accept medical supplies the US imperialists are willing to supply to Cuban-administeredd health facilities in Haiti if imperial strings are not attached.

The 2nd paragraph shows the fairness of the Cubans in acknowledging the absence of imperial interference with aid Cuba sends to Haiti.

The Cuban workers have an abundance of highly qualified professionals in health care that the US imperialists lack for service in Haiti.

The US imperialists have an abundance of medical supplies and equipment that the Cuban workers lack for use in Haiti.

So, there is common ground for cooperation in Haiti between Cuban workers and US imperialists if the lying bourgeois media in the USA stop doing everything this media can do to prevent the desperately needed cooperation.

It is sad that the bourgeois regime in the USA is led by a weak individual who dances to the foul propaganda of the bourgeois media.

We hope the bourgeois liberal regime in Santo Domingo will use its good offices to help arrange program of cooperation between Cuban workers and US imperialists that will save tens of thousands of Haitian lives. We understand however that some opponents of the Santo Domingo regime entertain other hopes.

The U.S. government has offered medical supplies to Cuban doctors in earthquake-devastated Haiti, but the Cubans have not yet formally agreed to accept the aid, the State Department said Friday.
The Cubans were reported to be running out of supplies at the three hospitals in Port-au-Prince where they have been treating hundreds of patients a day and performing surgeries almost around the clock.
``We have offered medical supplies, but the Cubans have not formally agreed to such assistance, nor have any materials been provided as yet,'' said Charles Luoma-Overstreet, spokesman for Western Hemisphere Affairs at the State Department.
``We will continue to identify areas where our cooperation [with Cuba] can support the overall relief effort in Haiti,'' added Luoma-Overstreet in an e-mail from Washington.
Cuba already had some 340 medical personnel in Haiti when the quake leveled much of Port-au-Prince last week, killing tens of thousands and leaving many more with broken bones and

crushed limbs.
It later sent in a 60-person emergency crew and 10 tons of supplies.
The Irish Times newspaper reported Tuesday that some of the Cuban medical teams had run out of anesthetics and were performing amputations on aware patients.
Cuba is allowing U.S. medical evacuation flights from the Guantánamo Naval base to Miami to overfly the island, saving up to 90 minutes of flying time.

Fidel knows that when his pastemaker stops pumping and after he has last blown his last smoke ring around his lil bros fat nose , that the Yankees will be coming to town for spring training and the roulette wheels will be spinning once again . When Castro took over Cuba, the reality is and was that he was willing to swing to the right as far as he went to the left if the Americans would have compromised with him and allowed him to be the majority share holder in his own country . Instead he found a little bitch in Russia that was willing to help him roll his stogies and burn the sugar cane in exchange for the right to park thier yachts along the malecon . Leo has put himself in the same place with Chavez and the Clintons .

If the US imperialists don't want to supply medical supplies and equipment to hospitals in Haiti largely staffed by Cuban doctors, that is an animalistic decision fully within the competence of US imperialists. But it is entirely another thing for US imperialists to tell lies to the world about offering, in words, supplies when the imperialists are withholding such supplies, in action.

But these are US supplies and US imperialists clearly have a say.

Other countries, in the EU and Asia , are sending medical supplies to Haiti for use in hospitals largely staffed by Cuban doctors. But US professional killers at Haitian airports sometimes won't let the airplanes land or unload. However, aid for other facilities flow freely at airports.

It is not just the Haitians and the Cubans who allege US imperial interference with some aid deliveries. EU and Asian countries also make these allegations.

The stooges of imperialism, the cappies, say only commies make these allegations.

No one is interested in knowing the true about how politics and militarism are the true weapons of controlling and deciding. Some comentaries here point to different situations, first Saddam didn't know how to deal with his conflicts with the U.S. as well as Fidel has done, second the U.S. was interested inplacing and expanding its will in Irak. Who cares about the lower class, they are only importance when times for elections as a way of showing that such a candidate has human feelings but when elected careless about them. Distressingly, I've been told numerous times where to go.

Usually, Cuba is suggested as a destination.

Millions of US citizens will love to have their liberty restored by the removal of US government restrictions on their inalienable right to travel.

Cappies, proponents of bourgeois societies, say if somebody goes to Cuba without US government permission, put him in jail for up to 20 years and fine him up to $250,000. Then, the two-faced cappie, turns around and says, "Hey you, go to Cuba."

Is the dirty cappie trying to set up loyal US citizens with a 20-year prison term or a $250,000 fine? Or ... is the dirty cappie just an enemy of liberty?

Everybody knows a cappie ... or a proponent of bourgeois society ... has no ethics. But the duplicitious positions of the cappie on travel to Cuba must be a new moral low, even for a cappie.
